why Trek XIV will 'go multiverse'

Spiderman:NWH (1.8b) and Dr Strange: MoM (950m)

Trek films have (for the most part) followed movie trends and whats popular in blockbusters like the Bond films have (like when Eon quickly switched FYEO with Moonraker after Star Wars). TMP obviously became a movie due to SW but went for the slow moving 2001 adult scifi of the early/mid 70s (when it probably shouldve been more action based like SW). TWOK was abit influenced by SW style action (by way of Hornblower) and darker horror elements like Alien/Empire and cold war thrillers. TSFS was abit like an 80s Lucas/Spielberg Trek film with elements of the sword&sorcery genre (Force like vulcan mysticism, SW style cantina/backward speaking aliens, fights over lava/temple) . TVH was fish out of water Croc Dundee style comedy meets BTTF time travel. TFF was abit like an Indiana Jones quest film (by Way of Eden/televangelism). TUC: coldwar/Hunt for Red October. FC: Aliens meets Terminator meets ID4. Nemesis: SW Clones/Gladiator. ST09: SW77 and the Batman/Bond reboots. STID: TDK and MCU style CG epic city destruction finale. STB: Avatar/Guardians/F&F 'family' vibes.

Paramount will know they have to up the game after the lackluster Beyond (which had barely any big 'hooks' to entice fans or general audiences, unlike ST09/ID both of which had hooks that played with/teased the 'Prime'verse). a way to do that is to go with a crossover/multiverse plot having the Kelvin cast/Enterprise encountering the Prime-verse or vice versa, possibly involving Shatner/TOS somehow (via CGI), and maybe Stewart/TNG (although that is more a separate stream series thing now). a big event in the Star Trek saga/lore. something similar to the Roberto Orci ST3 that was planned for the 50th anniversary instead of Beyond, tying back to first film, involving the Kelvin-verse under threat from a Soran type villain (Bryan Cranston) who has an ancient time device that can change the timeline back to how it was, and had the return of Shatner Kirk (deaged to Generations era) with Nimoy (before his passing) to help Pine/Quinto Kirk&Spock with dilemma to save kelvin timeline or not (therefore saving Vulcan, Spocks mother,Kirks father) bit like City on The Edge of Forever/Yesterdays Enterprise. also Alice Eve was back as Carol Marcus.. also add Nero/Bana & Hemsworth/George Kirk to tie back to the 2009 film (as was possibly the original plan of ST4 in adapting the Orci ST3 script with Hemsworth instead of Shatner). and get the original movie Enterprise back on the big screen. and some cameos (df) from the original cast. and have the JJ cast already in the 'movie era' of TOS (maroon uniforms, blu spacedock, reliant, excelsior, klingon BoPs, saavik, terrel,) Basically something as nostalgic for the 80s Trek movies as Top Gun Maverick was for the original film.

Seems almost everyone is jumping on the multiverse bandwagon in the past few years.

and with Avengers Secret Wars in production its about to going to be even more so

its funny if you read the comments on TrekMovie.com whenever theres some new movie news and some there are like 'its going to be a multiverse film' then they always get shot down by ones who are like 'no way itd be too expensive' (like thatd be a problem, all the Trek actors are desperate for work and constantly doing conventions), 'it'll just be another standalone thing like Beyond' (absolutly no way will they go down that route of a standalone with little/no connection to previous Treks again when the biggest hits now are the multiverse and old cast meets new cast - stuff that makes all kinds of sense for Trek)

now Kelvin movie 4 has seemingly been cancelled and theres talk of another TNG movie (post Picard s3) so maybe do a multiverse Yesterdays Enterprise. TNG crew (Ent F) meeting JJ crew (Ent-A), both crews have to work together to save the timelines. Frakes directs. $100m budget

Its been so long maybe they should throw out everything they worked on for 4th film and start again with a direct sequel to the first film ‘legacy sequel’ style (and really shake stuff up with timelines alternate universe stuff )

But what story? Maybe someone like Soran (perhaps actually soran in the kelvin timeline, played by Jude Law or Gary Oldman) is attempting to alter the kelvin timeline back to prime with timetravel (guardian of forever or slingshot or red matter) but in doing so it goes wrong and Nero (Eric Bana returning) survives ST09 and destroys earth.. Flash forward 20years starfleet is like Battlestar Galactica under constant threat from new Romulan/Klingon empire led by Supreme Emperor Nero and his fleet headed by the Narada. The Enterprise crew disbanded long ago is now on various ships, Kirk encounters Soran and finds he was responsible for changing things allowing Nero to win. He contacts Spock (now in charge of whats left of Vulcan people) and they band together once again (minus chekov unfortunately) on the battered old Enterprise in order to go back to prevent Soran doing what he did, Big finale where they assist their younger ST09 selves to defeat Soran and Nero.(they also have the chance to do what soran was attempting and alter things back to how they’d be originally/prime timeline, but do they? or do they let the kelvin timeline go ahead?? Big existential dilemma, kirk vs spock etc)

Could even rope in Malcom McDowell to play old Soran for when Kirk encounters him.(cue joke about death by falling bridges)

Trek kind of went multiverse already way back during the original series, with the Mirror, Mirror episode.

But yeah, I'd expect them to go all in with some kind of multiverse storylines. Hollywood has always engaged in a lot of imitation, but these days it's almost all they do.
