Don't have Him--or at least not the way he was

I never noticed this as a kid or saw it like that, but I've seen people, over the years, point out that Him has stereotypical gay-male qualities (I thought he was just vain) and having him be the main villain is homophobic, especially when all the other characters are straight. In Powerpuff Girls Z, this seemed a little less present to me--he was more like an evil clown, but, regardless, Him was disturbing to me as a child.

I understood Him was the devil or close to it and I hated feeling so uncomfortable when an episode with Him aired. I didn't like it in Powerpuff Girls Z either and I think today's kids should be spared that.

Also, to make up for the homophobia in the old series and even in Powerpuff Girls Z, why don't they have some strong gay, lesbian, and bi (since talking about bisexuality stops people from committing bi erasure) characters (also, having them be races other than white would be great)?

I could honestly see the professor being bi (as he did date Miss Keane and he just seemed to have this personality of being able to feel accepted and yet unaccepted in society) and the narrator be bi (just because he was so friendly and happy, but yet at a distance from everyone almost as if he felt he could only observe happiness, like he fit in as if he could pas for what was demanded of him, but not join in first hand). Maybe, the narrator could come in sometimes as a drawn in character and have a romance with the professor. It would be cute to see him lovingly narrate about the professor and his new step-daughters.

So, yeah, the ultimate villain should not be gay or the only gay or bi character or gay or bi, in this day and age (homophobia and biphobia still run rampant).

I love Him! Keep him the same! He's fabulous and evil.

It was homophobic, so he needs to change.

the funny thing about him is, i never viewed him as gay or a negative portrayal of gays. he never bothered me, he never confused me. it was a cartoon, i didnt look at it as representation of actual humans around me. if anything, mojojojo is portrayed as african with his voice, so you have an african who is a monkey who is a villain. thats more damaging and insulting than a devil character that im pretty sure most kids didnt even know MIGHT have been gay.

i dont recall him having any relationships or flirting with anyone, but he's automatically gay and ms bellum is promiscuous. lmao!!

reply

I felt he fit the stereotypes, like when there are articles pointing out these traits being in only villains, I felt Miss Bellum was written that way, and I never realized the Mojojo thing but that isn't cool either.

No. Craig McCracken based Mojo Jojo's speech pattern on the way that Japanese media was poorly dubbed into English during the 60's and 70's. Think Speed Racer and how the characters just seem to ramble.

It rubs the butter on it's skin, y'all.

Maybe I was stupid of what during my childhood, by I NEVER EVER knew HIM was a gay.
I never ever knew that it is )
And even after I learned that the gays are, HIM was just a manner trickster for me. But not gay.
Kids won't understand it, I guess.

reply

I felt weird about him, although I needed it explained to me he was gay, but I noticed he was the devil and that was too much. Plus, maybe, subconciously, I noticed, which could have been one of the reasons I had to really learn to relax with the fact people are gay or bi or gender nonconforming.

reply

Oh dear god, will you SJW's EVER shut the hell up?

HIM was just a creepy character!

THERE WAS NO HOMOPHOBIA IN THE DAMNED SHOW, GOOD GOD!!!

You idiots are obsessed!

reply

Having a gay villain is not homophobic. Gay people can be villains just like any other person. If you disagree you are a moron.

reply

There should be gay heroes too and right now the ultimate evil character should not be gay, if the heroes are not gay.

reply

That makes no sense. The hero doesn't HAVE to be gay because the villain is. The villain doesn't HAVE to be gay because the hero is (or isn't) either. The hero COULD be gay, thats fine, but it doesn't have to be because there is a gay villain. There doesn't need to be a reason why anybody is anything, they just are what they are. Besides, how do you know the hero isn't gay? How do you know HIM is actually gay? He could just be a silly flamboyant character. How do you know HIM is even a boy? He could be trans or all kinds of other things and just adopted that moniker. Or maybe....just maybe...its a silly cartoon character and you are looking too hard for something to be offended by or an agenda to push.

reply

You seem really, really over-sensitive. How is the fictional character "Him" gay again? Also, this show is for children first and foremost, so why are you assigning sexuality to the character in the first place? What is all the fuss about?

I really can't with all this PC crap nowadays. Everyone is way too sensitive and entitled.

reply

I've listed how he fits stereotypes of being gender non conforming in a way associated with gay men. He's a villain and we only see him do this most of the time, so it seems unfair and uneducational.

reply

If the SJW crap were as prominent in the past as it is today, we'd never have...

"Blazing Saddles"
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (evil transvestite after all!)
"Victor Victoria" (clearly stereotypes gays and suggests transgendered people are just pretending for money and/or attention!)

Basically, as Mel Brooks, Jerry Seinfeld, and now Bill Mahr have said (years after we warned it would happen, mind) comedy is dying because jokes can't offend anyone... unless they're white Christians... and those jokes tend to be awful since they are generated out of genuine hatred rather than constructed for humor.

reply

Him isn't gay. He has no sexual orientation. He's a demonic entity and a sadist. The only pleasure he gets is from inciting fear or causing pain to others, males and females alike.

Gruss Vom Krampus!

reply

He was too much for a kids show either way or just any show.

reply

I always thought that Him was meant to be an homage to Dr. Frankfurter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show (another villain who happened to be transsexual, and a very popular character at that).
