THAT CHICK LOOKS 30. SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE 11TH GRADE?

She's 23...
It's a bit of a stretch...

Just starting to watch season one. As soon as this actress came on screen, I said WTF? 11th grade? What idiots to be casting her. I thought for sure she was in her mid-20s. Every time I see her on screen, I cringe. Really takes away from the character.

reply

Definitely miscast.

She definitely looks 23, cannot pass for late teens in any way shape or form.

That rug really tied the room together.

She doesn't look that old. I have seen some rough looking high school seniors. They look like they could have popped a few kids out already.

OMG I came here just to see if anyone else mentioned this! lol I could NOT get over this part of the show. Every time I saw her, I had to figure out who she was because she looks SO much older than a 16-year old . This has to be one of the worst casting jobs I've ever seen. Really don't know why they chose to go with this person to play a high-schooler. And the role is not terribly demanding, seems like it would have been easy to find someone who better looked the part to play it.

Yeah, I thought this, too.

They couldn't have cast an actual teenager?

reply

Probably the reason a younger actress wasn't cast as Billy's daughter is due to the adult nature of the story line and what was required of the actress in portraying his daughter.

An older actor can portray a teenager and draw upon his/her experience as a teen to portray the younger person. A young adult playing a sixteen or seventeen year old has PERSPECTIVE that an actual teenager does not have.

Even when casting young children, directors will look for a child actor who looks young for his/her age because the older child will be easier to work with and have a modicum of perspective that, say a ten year old playing a ten year old would not. A young looking twelve year old would.

Possibly. But plenty of teen actors and even younger children are cast in films even more adult than this one. What about Linda Blair in The Exorcist? They took care, I believe, to protect her, but it was still very adult fare. Other examples, too.

I think that here it was just an easier casting decision and they thought it would work.

Hell, Shameless has child actors being filthy. Let's get real, they wanted an actress who would come across as mature and they were hoping she could pull off teenager, but instead they just got an actress who comes across as obviously much older than she is supposed to be.

reply

Oh ok so I can totally think about nailing her from behind now without feeling guilty.

reply

Be honest. You never felt guilty to begin with. :)
