Did Christine Chubbuck's on air suicide inspire Network?

I heard this wasn't what inspired Network; hard to believe, but supposedly Paddy Chayefsky wrote it prior to Christine Chubbuck's on air suicide (July 15th, 1974). Here's a theory: could she have gotten wind of his script and acted it out in real life? Anyway I'm watching this on Netflix now and it's a well done depiction which nails the era (1974).
