Bathtubs

It seems like they take out bathtubs a lot and replace them with huge showers. I would definitely object. I love taking baths.

Do not have them work on your house, problem solved...

How did I know my post would be met with a rude comment? Thanks for proving me right, dude.

My intention, however, was to see if others feel the same as I do or if bathtubs are becoming a thing of the past.

I'm with you intelligentsupermodel. When we bought our 150 year old farm, the bathroom was pink with green linoleum flooring and a scary 1970s era shower/bathtub unit. The original clawfoot bathtub was stashed under a bunch of junk in the barn. Bummer! Anyway, it's a completely different room now with a new cast iron clawfoot tub and a separate 4-foot shower with glass doors. I like the standalone shower, but could NOT do without a tub.

reply

I would suspect that the tubs are removed because the buyers have told them they only take showers and wouldn't use and don't want the tubs.

Tubs are popular, and many people demand them, at least in one of their bathrooms. The Gaines have a one-note approach to design, which I find incredibly dull and unsatisfying. I also think they take a cheapskate approach with everything. They care more about trying to sell people furniture from her stupid shop. I wouldn't let them work on a dog house. Whenever Chip and Dip, as we call them, show up on HGTV, we change the channel. A little of those two bumpkins goes a long way.

Put puppy mills out of business: never buy dogs from pet shops! 

Even if you don't regularly take baths you should still have a bathtub. The greatest way to easy a pulled muscle or aching joint is to soak, not take a shower.

😀

Thumbs up for bathtubs!

I love a clawfoot bathtub. 👍

I would never be without a tub...nothing beats a good soak!!

reply

Me too. I would totally have a claw foot tub!... If only I could afford to remodel. :/

I do think it's pretty common to have a tub in the second bathroom, but not the master, since typically children take baths but not adults. Yet there is still a tub in the house if the adults want to take baths.

A 5 piece master bath, which includes a stand up shower and a large whirlpool tub separate, is ideal, but of course that takes up a lot of space and money so it can't always be done.

Personally, if you could only do the exact same kind of tub/shower combo that was in my kids' bathroom, I'd say scratch the tub and I'd like more counter/storage space, and if I want to take the occasional bath I'll take it in the second bathroom. I'd guess there are others who feel this way, resulting in the stand up shower in the master.

Taking showers makes me feel rushed. Taking baths makes me feel relaxed.

reply

They usually have a shower as well as tub in the masters that they renovate. I personally would like both but if I had to choose I would prefer a huge shower.

reply

Bingo...big showers are in now. Call me crazy but I don't find soaking in water + my own filth relaxing. I'll take a hot tub on the patio but could care less about having a bathtub.

That made me laugh because my mom loved to tell people how I told her almost the same thing when I was a kid. "I don't want to soak in my own filth. People stew!"

I am definitely a bath lady!!! love my bath.....seld=om take a shower....long warm soak with epsom salts take away the aches and pains

reply

Be careful though. Hot tubs are full of bacteria, so I've heard. :/

reply

you need to disinfect them occasionally....I could not have a house without a tub...that is definitely a deal breaker!

reply

Yes, the disinfect issue. So many ppl I know try to get hot tubs in their rooms on vacation...it's hard to clean around the jets and it probably takes more time that housekeeping has to spend to thoroughly wash AND dry the tubs between guests to get all of the germs out. My girlfriend takes her cleaning supplies with her and does her own disinfecting job (well, she's a bit OCD and does the whole bathroom) before using.

I'd love a claw foot tub. Trouble is if I took out what I have, I'd lose $$ on a resale as there's not enough room for a separate shower.
Oh but I can dream...

I always take showers. Can't stand the boredom of baths, which is basically sitting on the floor in dingy water, staring at a tile wall. However, a tub is occasionally useful for hand washing a bedspread or some other object that's too big to go in the washing machine. The most efficient use of space is a combination tub-shower. Some of these people have showers built that must be about fifty square feet, a tremendous waste of valuable space that could be better used for storage.
