How are the Red Sox playing at 11:30 in the morning?

I enjoyed this film, but that was a glaring inaccuracy. The race started at 9:30am, the elites were closing in on the finish line some 2 hours later, and there's a sold out Red Sox game?

As others have said, Patriots Day is a holiday in Massachusetts that occurs on the third Monday in April. Every year, it is the day the Boston Marathon is run, as well as the Red Sox always playing a ball game that starts at 11:05 in the morning.

Red used to play early all the time till the mid-80s when the MLB forced them to get lights for nightgames.

I just realized that this complaint is even stupider than it seems!

Early in the movie someone says (pretty sure it's Tommy to his wife) something like "There are three things you can do on Patriot's Day. Watch the Marathon, run the Marathon, or watch the Red Sox at Fenway." A line put into the script solely to alert folks that there is a tradition of having a Sox game simultaneous with the running of the race.

The point of that, BTW, is that you leave the Sox game and go down and watch the runners still going past the park.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.
