Season 2, Episode 2 - something bugged me

Okay, I just finished watching Season 2, Episode 2 (The Devil Inside) and in the episode (Spoilers - but I assume you knew this, having clicked on a thread with this title) there is a baffling plot.

So, the Prince wants to kill a bunch of babies - each is potentially the child of Queen Joan and Landry - and he wants to pin this on the Templars.

He needs Templar garb to pull this off. Does he have some made? Nope. Does he steal some. Noooo. He ambushes Templars in the woods, kills them, and takes the gear.

Except the reason the Templars are in the woods for the ambush is because, earlier (completely unrelated and unknown to the prince) Landry and some other initiates get punished and sent to the woods to prep a tree. Long after dark, they find a group of Luciferians performing an occult rite and get in a fight. They flee and then the other Templars ride out to fight the Satanists. They ride right into the prince's cunning trap!

HOW DID HE KNOW THEY WOULD BE THERE!? Was he waiting all day with straining, pre-loaded crossbows for the knights' arrival? Did he psychically realise the chain of events that would make this happen? Do Templars regularly go for post-midnight rides through that exact path in the woods!? HOW DID NOBODY CATCH THIS "PLOT"!?

I loved season one, but this is just a big disappointment.

Just finished it; season two picked up a LOT after the second episode. There was much better plotting, character work, and storylines as it went on. That second episode was still pretty bad, but it turned out it was just a misstep on an otherwise super-entertaining show.
