can make Kristen Stewart show talented on the screen. This guy has zero range, playing the same way in every role he is given, including his Tourette style hand/finger twitching and the predictable leaning in towards his co-star.
While we are each allowed our own opinion, I thought that Jesse E. subtly caught the essense of Woody Allen's mannerisms in his portrayal. While it was not overt, his speech also carried the neurotic inflections the way WA would speak. I thought that perhaps Mr Allen was too old (maybe not the energy to go along with directing) to play his lead character and found a mini me. In that regard I thought that JE did a good job at playing Allen.
Have you seen The End of the Tour? Same acting, same mannerisms. Maybe he was channeling Allen in that role instead of Lipsky. Or maybe he just gets roles as the stereotypical NYC Jewish guy. Whatever it is, it all looks and sounds the same.
You are eseentially ignoring the fact that Eisenberg plays two characters in this movie: the fumbling neophyte in the beginning and the glad-handing confidant impresario later on. He does very well with both and his manner and style change. At this point, I think you are not very observant and your opinion about acting is not to be trusted no matter how sincere it is.

Hmm. Makes one question whether the OP even saw Cafe Society.
I thought he's good in playing characters every chance he gets one, but please leave Lex Luthor out of this, the voice of Jesse made Lex looked like a cranky cringe worthy person.
Most people don't see the conveyance that he brought into the big screens. I'll admit, he's not legendary, but great enough to survive in the Hollywood industry.
The only thing that keeps people from saying that he's just a repetitive character in every play is that the way he talks implied many's agreements about this discussion.
Another ignorant post. Whehter you like his acting or not, you could only possibly be referring to the first part of the movie, when he played the bumbling naive nephew. He later became the glad-handing imprassario of a nightclub confidant enough to sweep a gorgeous woman off her feet upon first meeting her. Fail.
Nope, nope, nope. That's not it at all. His acting is just bad. I've seen enough of his roles to see he does the same things every time. I really don't think people know what RANGE is, and that it's different than depth of a character.
Examples of actors known for RANGE in their performances (also known as, not playing themeselves in their roles and changing their voice, intonation, prosody, appearance, etc.): Phillip Seymour Hoffman John Turturro Meryl Streep Christian Bale Dustin Hoffman Marlon Brando
Examples of actors that are known to play basically themselves in everything they do (even though they play in likeable films): Owen Wilson Tom Cruise James Spader Natalie Portman
So far, Jesse has not proven himself to have much range since he made it big with The Social Network. And it's not like he hasn't had opportunities with some of his roles. I could play just the audio from Adventureland, The End of the Tour, and Cafe Society, and without knowing the scene, I would not be able to tell them apart.
In your second list you seem to have overlooked James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Humphrey Bogart, and an almost endless list of famous actors giving great performances from many decades of filmmaking.
