In what world

will you choose Kristen Stewart over Blake Lively?

I don't think any poster on this board would ever have to seriously ponder this question.

I thought about it a little and I think Stewart's personality (outside of persueing an affair with his uncle) was a little more exciting and interesting where Lively felt very boring and, dare I say, unlively. As far as looks, I thought Stewart looked great in this movie and I think they are about even in my opinion.

In the context of this movie, Stewart's character is very appealing, and she was Bobby's first love, so you can't blame him for finding it difficult to get over her. BUT ...

1. When he found out she had been sleeping with his uncle, that should have dampened his ardor. I know that twisted family connections make no difference to Woody, but to most people, they do.

2. Vonnie rejected Bobby in a straight-up contest. There was no farcical misunderstanding; in the end, both suitors made their pitches, and Bobby lost. She wanted the uncle, not him. Time to get on with your life.

3. Blake Lively's character obviously did not deserve to be someone's consolation prize. The role wasn't fully fleshed out, but Veronica seemed kind, decent, not bitter despite her first husband's mistreatment of her, and unconflicted in her feelings for Bobby. And she was easily the most glamorous creature in the film. Bobby should have thanked all his family's gods for having to "settle" for a woman like her.

It's not her choosing his uncle that bothered me. It's that she kept it from him, even as he was proposing to her. Then she flat out rejects him & chooses his uncle. Then, when they meet again years later, she flirts with him, not once even apologizing or feeling guilty about what she did. Then, Jesse's character stupidly falls for her again, despite having a lovely wife and a newborn child waiting for him at home.

Stewart's character was nothing but a spoiled, immature brat that wanted to have her cake and eat it too. She can't make up her mind so she decides to ruin 2 marriages by having affairs. It seems to me she is not in love with either men. She's just in love with the excitement of having affairs with married men. Just a completely selfish character. But she gets rewarded by getting the rich husband and having the affair with her former love. There was no justice in this film.

YES! I Also, Vonnie acted like such an insufferable twat when she saw Bobby in his club. And she pretty much rejected him because she didn't know if Bobby would strike it rich whereas the uncle was a proven commodity.

Stewart has something about her that's hard to explain. I say this all the time. She's not a Classic Beauty like Lively, whom is no doubt just ABSOLUTELY Gorgeous, but she just has a Way About Her. Honestly, I think she's Irresistible. I can't take my eyes off her. In the Realm of the film, it also works. First Love, different time etc... It's a story from a self-described "Romantic" and it makes perfect sense. Woody may have his own history but I think he's always gotten down to the Core of what Love can do to people. It's irrational and spontaneous. Most are willing to overlook everything in their life for Love. It has no explanation. It JUST IS...

news flash: not every dude prefers girls that look like blake lively.
Not that opaque, bland, milque toast chick.
Unfortunately, many dudes are not so discerning and would bed anyone and some how tend to promote girls that look
like this.

Your just a product of some programming thats talking.

Neither are lookers, but I would probably pick Lively over Stewart. Though, if I was the Jesse's character, I probably would pick Steward as well.

Lively's character was intentionally given so little to do, she's less a character, and more a plot device. Blake was obviously stunning, when next to Stewart, she seems boring.

reply

Hate to say it, but I'd actually take Stewart over Lively, at least in this movie. I've never found Lively all that attractive, though I do understand why other men do. To me Lively just looks like a typical bland skinny blonde. Stewart is probably not as traditionally pretty as Lively, but she's strangely captivating, even if she's a bit too skinny.

I'm so ugly...that's ok 'cause so are you.

reply

I think both are stunning.

reply

I guess the real question is in what world would Jesse Eisenberg get anywhere near either Stewart or Lively other than to maybe deliver a pizza.

Haha- true, unless he had money, which I guess he did at the end and that's when twat starts longing for the other married guy.

reply

Ah, but isnt that the charm of just about every (good) Woody film?
