So Why Is This New TV Series Set In The Early 80's?

Have seen the previews and the lead actor Ed Westwick guest starred today
on ABC-TV's The Chew. Why isn't it set in today's time of 2015 and why
in 1982? I love the period music heard in the trailer though curious as
to why the time period is over 30 years ago?

I'm grateful the show isn't set in modern times. For one the music now sucks and two, the technology would take up far too much screen time. I suspect we'd get multiple shots of text message conversations and Apple product placements.

Amen to that.

I love that its set in that era. I loved Miami Vice, and while this will never have the exact same vibe, because Vice is authentic 80s, while this is just a re-creation, it is the closest thing on television these days, and I love the music and the lack of social media and text-craziness too.

Not mentioning the exact year would have been good, that would give them leeway to use more songs.

This is based on a real case from the 1980s.

Because it's based on a real case that happened in the 80's: the Clark-Bundy case.

Alright and thank you. Though unfortunately I never got to watch any
episode as ABC-TV canceled it after just three had aired!

They were going for a Hillside Strangler copy at killer. I think in the pilot they also mentioned that the lead Detective helped solve those murders.
