Was it really that good ?

All the critics seem to be wetting thenselves over a show which never really made up its mind about what it was.

A ghost story ?
An unrequited love story ?
A murder mystery ?
An old cop going nuts ?
Another dodgy incestuous family disaster ?

I wasn't taken by the leads, neither of whom I found remotely attractive. Only River's new partner and the shrink impressed me.

Plz. No season 2

It was good, not great. The scenes with River as a medium were overdone. Yeah, I get that he has a unique ability but putting him in a restaurant with a dozen roses waiting for his deceased partner to show up for dinner, and talking to her in front of the diners made him look more neurotic and unhinged than a respected "genius" should be allowed to get away with, at least by his peers, as in numerous others scenes. If he understands his psychic condition, which, according to the plot evidence he does, then he should also understand and be able control public melt-downs.

Other than that, I enjoyed the acting and direction. Some have complained that the characters aren't handsome or pretty. That's a non-issue. It's a treat to see good actors who can look like real people, who can convey raw emotion through facial features, especially the eyes.

River is neither a medium nor a psychic. The show explicitly spells this out.

He IS unhinged. It also spells that out.

I mean, why not just "Snuffcarcass"?

That good? Not IMO. But not bad, either. This show spent so much time with LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG shots, and Rivers' SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW delivery, as if to make it seem more artsy. It became increasingly annoying as time went on. This might have made a great 2 or 3 part mini-series. As it was, it was an okay, different sort of show. But not great by any means.

Or it did but it escaped you completely. It was a character story about a man who lost his only real connection to the world around him and was trying to make sense of it.

Of course if you prefer wrapping things into one neat little cliché, that might not be your type of show.

There was nothing incestuous by the way but I guess you're not a fan of nuance.

Now I just pity you. If you need to have the hots for the lead, you should stick with the glamourized crap that airs on American tv.

Yes it was - it was excellent. And obviously there will be no second series. This series was the whole story.

It was all of the above, with the exception of the "ghost story". If you didn't catch it - early one the lead admitted his problems with hearing voices and seeing thing, except he also admitted he knew they were not real.

A brilliantly done murder mystery with lots of false leads, all leading to the inevitable "faint heart never wins fair lady" ending.

I think Nicola Walker is very attractive, devastatingly lovely big eyes.

Why do actors have to be attractive? If anything, I find it refreshing when actors in movies and TV shows look like every day people and not made up dolls. Makes things more realistic.

But you keep being shallow.
