Gibney thinking about follow-up to Going Clear

Alex Gibney may have a follow-up to his popular and controversial documentary about Scientology, "Going Clear."

"I'm thinking about it".......

"It was controversial," Gibney said. "It was almost as if I had let a safety valve to happen, that there was a lot of pent-up frustration. People thought they couldn’t talk about this subject. And I think what happened with ‘Going Clear’ was that it allowed people to begin to talk, which was both healing for a lot of people who had been in [Scientology], and also a relief, and a great kick for people who felt they wanted to say something and couldn’t.

The_Strangeler -- all I can say it wasn't me, and see no technical reason for it. Not uber-shocked though.

it's only SweetStrych9 and her socks
Not sure who that is (and haven't seen on this board) or even how you know who is doing what, but am sure that must be right.

That's cool, I hope he does make another documentary on Scientology.

Well he is at least interested enough to bring it up. So at least all the flack and legal threats he got from "the church" didn't stop his consideration of a follow-up. Heck -- for a guy like him might have made him even more interested just to prove they couldn't beat him down.

reply

I don't agree. Just Scientology.

No, I don't.
Scientology abuses their practitioners. They enforce disconnection, and abortions. The RPF is a device created for the purpose of torturing their followers into submission if they get out of line. They bleed you dry of money to get you dependent on them. That's why I'm glad he targets them. I feel sorry for the good people that's caught up into it. The ones who managed to get out deserves to have they're stories heard.

Scientology is despicable to me because of the reasons I listed above.

So, your opposition to Scientology has nothing to do with their actual beliefs?

I don't see anything in your post about the story of Lord Xenu, Thetans or repressed memories from past lives. People should be allowed to believe what they want.

Would you continue to oppose Scientology if they maintained their unorthodox beliefs and ended their abusive practices?

Given that he lumps in your local Unitarian Church with Scientology, think the answer to that is a big yes.

cultists who attack other cultists for being cultists are hypocrites.
Yet but according to you everyone who belongs to any kind of religion is a cultist.

Lets take for example, child molestation by clergy in the Catholic Church -- should that be immune from criticism from all but those in the other 10% of the population?

No cults, no crimes.
So do away with religion and all crime goes away?

If anything I figure religion originally came about to instill values into people that otherwise might uprise on the promise of a glorious afterlife. But then you can turn it to other purposes. Think the ISIS shows that.

ISIS is a mossad false-flag black op.

LOL -- and actually had to expand the screen to make sure your emoticon was winking.

I hope he does make another one. Good quote from the article:

There is no doubt that Scientology is fond of intimidation tactics. In the late 1990s they sued and appealed Time Magazine in a lawsuit that was never going to win simply to drive up the magazine's legal fees as revenge and a warning to others. Those days are gone though apparently.....too much out there even if they like to threaten the same a bunch like they did with Going Clear even before they saw it.

Individuals though are something different, particularly the ones that have been branded as traitors.
