...the kid donated the entire coin jar to charity. Seriously? The dad is scraping for any money he can find and his son does that?
He didn't know what he was doing. He hit the 'charity' button by accident. I might have done the same thing in his place; I never heard of a 'charity' button. Do those really exist?

shareI dont use Coinstar. In my book they are a ripoff because you dont get the full value of your money. (I will probably get a lecture on the fact that they cant do the service for free. I think that the store with the machine should give a full value voucher to spend there)
Nevertheless; the "charity" button. I cant say for sure if they exist. I know that different locations may have machines programmed differently with different "options".
A button that is simply marked "CHARITY" would seem ridiculous. Most people would like to select the charity they are donating to. Who really wants to donate to some unknown entity.
I think the "CHARITY" option was created for the movie.

That's only if you want cash. You have the option of getting a credit for 100 percent of your money for a large selection of stores, like Lowe's, Home Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, etc.
Or you can donate it all to charity, like the little turd in the movie.
