After her death and what he thinks is the death of Billy, he doesn't even wonder for one second about being tricked into going to work.

He was an ass the entire movie, but that just proved him to be a stupid ass on top of it.

He didn't support his wife when she said she saw what she saw. He was a jerk. He just assumed the rich man didn't leave a number, and something bad happened and didn't believe his wife.

I hated that too.
And not just because it was another example of the yuppie mantra "NEVER say no to work. Work trumps all."

Earlier when he says, "It's ONLY two days, dear," I thought of Joanna and The Stepford Wives.
"It's going to happen BEFORE that. Don't you see?"
In movies like this, they never do.
