Erin Pregnancy

I watched this on a long international flight, so I may have missed something, but when Erin is meeting with Michael, she has some wine after avoiding the booze earlier. She seems indifferent to her pregnancy now. Is this to suggest that she has aborted or is no longer pregnant or just doesn't care or will sacrifice the child for her career?

How is drinking a glass of wine makes you sacrifice your child? WTF? I bet you are american.

Yes I am, and I imbibed during my own pregnancy (before there was the campaign against). However, my question was in the context of the film; first we see her avoiding booze. then a little distracted during her ultrasound, then less baby-bumpy in the later scenes. I simply wonder if she lost the baby or chose an abortion, as she seems much more interested in a hard-driving career than her impending motherhood. Yes, we can do both, but there seemed to be an unresolved plot matter here. I interpreted the wine as a symbol that she had chosen career over baby.

I think you are overthinging this. It was a matter of priorities. She wanted to talk to the guy who invited her in and offered wine. It would have been weird to stay and not drink when you are invited to stay and drink.

I think not. This is a film about women in a tough, generally male-dominated work environment and what it takes to get ahead. Career and motherhood is still an ongoing issue for any woman and this detail, subtle and insignificant to you, a man, is not so to me, a woman whose career has been somewhat defined, if not derailed, by the demands of family. I think (!) in this movie it is not so trivial. Weird to not drink? She could easily have said, I'm driving, or I have a headache, or my stomach's a little off, I'd like a seltzer.

You might be right, I heard most involved in the making of this movie were women after all.

I was wondering this too. It was no accident that at that moment, she chose to drink, after having been so obtuse about not imbibing before. There was a STRONG undercurrent about the sacrifices made to get the "rainmaker" career you want as a woman (guys ultimately make the same sacrifices, but don't actually carry children).

After the drink there was a scene where she threw up (actually, now that I think of it, maybe she made herself puke up the alcohol?), a scene where she stood up in front of a mirror in a black dress (which I found inconclusive), then a scene at the end where she was getting Naomi's job and rubbing her belly as if she was still pregnant. I too wondered if she had had an abortion, but my guess in re-thinking it is she imbibed, puked, but the baby was still a threat to her career. Interesting sub-plot for sure.

PS I hate watching in-flight films...too hard to get all the details!

I agree with all you said. Also, at the end, the young corporate guy tells Erin she will need to be ready to work 24 hours on 24 implying that Erin will most probably abort or had already.
