You got it backwards. Housebound was great, The Boy was mediocre.
What everybody fails to realize is "Housebound" does not take itself seriously and is pretty much a horror comedy, playing with your expectations and horror cliches, which worked well (I had a lot of fun with it), whereas "The Boy" is a straightforward horror movie which did not work well (I was hardly scared).
So basically yea, except for the guy in the walls and the female lead they do not have that much in common.
I didn't hate "The Boy" but it doesn't really feel higher than 5/10 for me.
