Christine hyperventilating at the office.....

Did she fake that or play that up, in order to gain sympathy and/or make the jerks talking in the office look bad? She gave a little look to Tellis as it was happening and it seemed like a possible manipulative move on her part.

Kind of hard to say for sure.

She faked it. She was clearly distressed when Tellis showed her the video and when she went to the ladies room and checked her phone to see the entire audience it was sent to. When she was essentially fired, she came back into the office to see everyone had moved on and was conducting business as usual. She knew if she wanted to be anything more than an afterthought in that office, she needed to make a scene that would gain sympathy. She was already very upset and went into the hyperventilation mode to establish a case for herself for wrongful termination. When she was given a ride home, she was not too upset to eat a burger. So while she faked the hyperventilation, she was still upset at being humiliated and fired but not so upset she couldn't eat.

That was my suspicion too but you put it very eloquently and with good detail....thanks.

As always, you write my thoughts! I agree she faked the hyperventilating but definitely was upset. I thought the burger scene was what solidified it.

What a lovely day!

Great writing and great acting! I love that the writers thought to show us that she would eat a burger immediately after all that. In the cab, Kayla had asked if Christine wanted to pick up something to eat but was actually surprised when Christine said that sounded good. And as always, Riley Keough totally sells every line with her eyes, face, tone and mannerisms. Just the way she went about eating the burger made the scene so realistic. You could see she was still feeling the effects of the traumatic experience of being humiliated and fired. But she had already begun her counter attack with the fake panic attack and she wasn't so troubled that she couldn't eat.

Well said. This scene is a great example to counter those who say Riley acts like a "robot" in the show and communicates little range. I think she's just about perfect in the show. She is believable and scary when she shows rage (confronting Jacqueline, for example) and is believable in how solitary and closed-off emotionally she is. She does exactly what the script asks her to and does it very well.

It's a terrific performance. In interviews, Riley is so engaging and eloquent and it makes her performance resonate even more when you see her outside the role.

I'll be intrigued to see what she does from here.

I was wondering if she faked the hyperventilating also. But during it she fixed her gaze on the guy she was in the video with (I forget his name). So I thought more like she was faking else she wouldn't as likely be staring at one person.

Do you need a bowman!?

reply

I dont know if anyone is till here. I cant work out if she sent the video or someone else sent it out.

reply

Unlikely she sent it - that's why she's shown checking the email addressees list in the bathroom, to let us know it's a surprise for her as well

Pretty sure it was Jack, since he's the guy in those videos, his voice in those videos is disguised, and it was sent out after Christine talked to Anne, Jack's friend, about him
