could've been better than on the low side of decent... (spoiler)

...if we knew why everything was happening. As it is, the global pandemic (or whatever) is never explained. The kid is a good actress though and the first portion when she was home alone made you care about her. Once her parents returned and there was no explanation forthcoming it got mundane. The shit that happened to her parents though was well-done, FX-wise.

I have to disagree with you on that. While the parasite was really interesting, it was not what this movie was about. It was about the family trying to cope with this 'illness' as there really was no way to cure it. It also showed how much of a toll it had taken on an otherwise innocent little girl who just wanted to be with her family.

I think focusing too much on the parasite would have lessened or even outright led to the exclusion of some of the really good scenes in this movie. Heck, the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie is just the daughter living and hiding from the 'monster' and it's the best part of the movie. There is no mention of or even recognition that the parasite might even exist at that stage of the movie, it's just a generic 'monster'. Sorry, but I think more explanation and time dedicated to the parasite would have had an overall negative impact on the movie.

I definitely agree with you on the other stuff though. Scenes with the girl were good, the parasite was really cool and the effects and scenes with the parents at the end were impressive.
