18 dominated Vegeta, and the other Z Warriors, but she wasn't in any other fights in the series besides with Mighty Mask and Mr. Satan, other than the movies. Android 18 becomes a character alongside Bulma, Chichi, and Videl. Videl even seems more of a main character than Android 18 at the end of the series.
Master Roshi was one of the main characters in DragonBall. I haven't seen all of DragonBall to know all he did, but he mostly seemed like a master in training, a wise but dirty old man, and a winner in the tournaments as Jackie Chun.
Yamcha was like the coolest character, and he was seen at the beginning of DragonBall, but he didn't have many shining moments throughout the series. I always wish there was more of them.
Goten and Trunks fights seem more comic than they are serious which might be why they aren't fighting characters in this movie.
Gohan was a character who showed lots of potential in a lot of his fights when he angered. He could even take down Frieza, and he is like even stronger as a mystic Saiyan than Goku is Super Saiyan 3. He also defeated Cell. But, despite his potential as a character Toriyama preferred having Mr. Satan alive on the World Of The Kais than Gohan, and have Vegeta and Goku finish off the fight.
It doesn't look like Yajirobe will be in this movie. I'm not too sure all Yajirobe did, but he mostly seems like a strong, lazy fat guy carrying around a sword and coward for fighting. I'm not too sure all he did in DragonBall, but in DragonBall Z in the only fight we see him in, despite being the weakest human who couldn't fly, he probably made the biggest difference of all the non-saiyan characters in that fight, even more so than Piccolo. He cut off Vegeta's tail, and he was able to injure Vegeta which gave Gohan time to transform.
Piccolo is a favorite among Toriyama and a lot of fans, but he wasn't seen in a fight after the Cell Saga. His fight with Android 17 was an awesome fight. He is a wise character that can stay alive during a fight and knows what to do.
Krillin is the comic relief. I like how Krillin was able to slightly hold himself against Imperfect Cell in one brief scene.
Tien is a cool character and it's debatable who is stronger between him and Krillin. Though most people probably think Tien is stronger. We first meet him as a character in DragonBall, when he defeated Goku and faced off against Yamaha. Tien did' seem to make a difference in the Saiyan Saga, but he makes a difference in the Cell Saga, he stood alongside Piccolo. He took Semi-Perfect Cell Down with his Tri-Beam Canon. In the Buu Saga, he deflected an attack to prevent Buu from destroying Earth and I wonder what if Tien could have fused with Goku instead of Vegeta and instead of fusing with Mr. Satan?
So, this has been a long post where I describe the other characters and their potential in the series. But, most of us want to see the non-saiyan characters in action, so it will be cool seeing characters like Master Roshi in action.
