I've seen a lot worse

Tom Berenger returns for the fifth film of the series (after missing the fourth) - although we have to wait nearly an hour for him to make his entrance. Chad Michael Collins returns from the previous film, as Berenger's estranged son. The plot involves someone bumping-off military officers. The manner of the kills leads to the conclusion that the killer is an outstanding marksman, and Berenger and Collins team-up with other Force Recon marines to track down whoever's responsible.

The film isn't highly rated, but honestly it's not too bad (it's certainly better than anything Steven Seagal has churned out over the last twenty years!). The cinematography (by Martin Chichov) is very good, making the most of picturesque locations, and the action is pretty well-staged. The plot is basic, and some of the dialogue is corny. But Chad Michael Collins, whilst no Oscar winner, is likeable and looks the part. Dennis Haybert is his usual reliable self. As for Berenger, he's clearly looking older and heavier (I actually saw a pic of him taken five years after this film, and it looked like he'd had some 'work' done; probably after seeing this!). He's not exactly required to show any range, but he does what he needs to, and it's always nice to see him. Enjoyable, in a mindless way. 6/10
