Why hasn't this won any oscars?

Especially for supporting actor. Sure Mahershala's performance was good in Moonlight but I think Dev Patel nailed it in this one. So much emotion, great acting. Why did it seem like Lion was a bit forgotten during awards season (excluding the BAFTA's). What was not to love about Lion?

Unfortunately, Oscars are not just something that happens if a movie is good. Producers have to lobby academy members, give them presents, and advertise the movie through expensive campaigns. If producers are not good at this game, their movie can get snubbed.

I really think it should've won an Oscar for Best Cinematography. It was such a beautiful movie to watch. Especially the early scenes in Ganesh Talal and Calcutta were brilliant.

6 Oscar nominations isn't bad though, so many great films never get anywhere near that type of acclaim. Not to mention the other awards it was nominated for and won at international awards ceremonies and festivals, it dominated the AACTA Awards (the Aussie Oscars) in 2017, winning 12 awards from 12 nominations.

Not that I think Oscar wins are a true indication of the most deserving winner, but I think overall the film received the praise it deserved.
