Ridiculous

I know that this is *beep* The story might be true but it likely happened in a third world country without white people. I mean come on? The woman goes through a near death experience and in spite of all the trauma she is able to recall enough of her experience to write a memoir? I've been through a similar experience only it was called a nervous breakdown. It happens from time to time. It's called growing up and becoming an adult.

We have what we seek, it is there all the time, and if we give it time, it will make itself known.

If the case was legitimate a doctor would've penned the memoir. There's no conclusive evidence that this happened. The air freshener in this room smells like Mike And Ike. There's also a hint of juicy juice. -Nostrils flare-

The book is an example of the things William Gaddis preached about in The Recognitions. We live in a time where we can manipulate anything and make it look legitimate. This book isn't what I would call much of a challenge. One look and you can sense that it probably isn't true.

But take a look at Norman Doidge's The Brain that Changes itself and The Brain's Way of Healing. Those do feel legit to me. I doubt someone would claim to be an MD if they weren't.

This disease absolutely exists, and it is a true story, and it happens all over the world-- including the US. If you had actually viewed the movie, read the book or conducted ANY research at all, you would know this. This is a serious disease that requires proper diagnosis for effective treatment. Proper diagnosis comes through education and awareness, such as that being provided by this important movie. Why don't you educate yourself some so that you can be a part of the solution and not the problem. You can find more information about this disease at www.antinmdafoundation.org

A few years ago myself along with my entire company had a 5k fundraiser for our coworker and dear friend that had this and let me tell you it is true and she even relapsed. The whole point of this movie and events they are having all over America is to grow awareness to this disease and help research! So if you haven't done your research and everyone can tell you haven't please don't comment on here. The lives this has touched is forever changed and we need as much help as we can get to help the ones who do have this all the way from children to adults.

Yes this disease and this story are real and no the memoir did not take place in a third world country. Susannah Cahalan didn't remember most of what happened during that time. She used video from the hospital, and interviews from family, friends, and doctors to piece together what she can not remember. I had the same illness and really don't appreciate you saying it is all fake because you haven't heard of it before. It is rare and newly discovered. Most people havent heard of Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. Cahalan has influenced so many people's lives by spreading awareness through this book. Do some research before you try to discredit her and everyone else who has been affected by the illness.

Did you even watch the movie?

LOL you're funny. She's a journalist...so she investigated her own case and pieced together what happened from outside of herself.
