bazitus it was jumping all around he can't write dialog just throw visual at you with a messy back and forth time line assuming you know his history with a mix of re mix songs with rap rubbish mixed in. then it finally turned into a movie 30 mins in and got good.
Kill the first 30 mins and the movie is good
There were bits and pieces at the beginning that I liked, but as you say, messy. I love Baz Luhrman movies but the comic book part was a little cringey for my taste, though I liked the young Elvis scene overall, and Elvis's introduction/first show. I just think they should have recut and rearranged the first 30mins to get a better flow. Moulin Rouge has a similar frantic edit at the beginning but I think that works to establish the strange bohemian musical world the characters inhabit.
Once it really got going, around the time the Colonel and Elvis talked on the Ferris Wheel, I got into it and pretty much enjoyed the rest.
Agree, I don't think the first 30 needs thrown out, but it needs a pretty serious rework
