As dumb as anything Hollywood might have made. Couldn't finish it.

I made it to about the halfway point, a few minutes after the wave. Wow is this movie stupid. Not only does the wave look nothing like an actual tsunami, which would simply be a large swell of water until it hits the shore, but the logic of surviving one in a car or in a bomb shelter? Jesus Christ. The filmmakers couldn't have done even the slightest bit of research. So I looked up the ending on Wikipedia, and it apparently gets even worse.

This wouldn't be such an issue if this weren't played up as an intelligent disaster movie. It's just as bad as every moronic thing out of Hollywood. Kinda sad I wasted about an hour of my life on this tripe. Oh well.

Pretty harsh assessment, but I basically agree. I suspect this flick's good reception by movie critics was due in no small part to it being European made (for example, the LA Times raved about it). The ridiculous and miraculous events shown in the second half of it makes The Poseidon Adventure seem realistic in comparison. Furthermore, the visual special effects were surprisingly un-special (excellent sound, however). If this was an American made film, it would have been skewered for sure.

Life is a state of mind.

This movie annoyed me exactly how The Impossible did..families split up and don't know the other is alive inexplicably surviving a tsunami but oh no let's first have the viewer think a parent dies so you think ok realistic after all but OH NO they actually survive!! Ugh!!!
