Everyone, ignore the IMDB rating, it's not that bad.

Just putting this here so people know to disregard the highly exaggerated rating. If the film had reached only it's intended audience and not the droves of morons who rate the film ridiculously low, then it would easily have an above average score of 6-7. Feel free to discuss here the reasons people have for being so horribly offended and upset about this movie, acting like it's literal garbage and not just the slightly above average quality thriller that it is. OR, you could always try and justify your 1/10 rating by screaming at me.

reply

I just finished the movie and it is easily a 7. I rated it a 10 to do my bet to offset all the 1s.

reply

[deleted]

So your rating is a lie?

reply

It's an awful movie that is filled with plot holes from top to bottom but if you want to see young nude women pretending to have sex then saddle on up and drop trow...

reply

People like you are exactly the reason why I made the post. Take your complaints elsewhere, please. I understand it isn't a fantastic, perfect film, but it's not the 1/10 film that all these offended idiots think it is.

reply

You mean people that know a terrible movie when they see one? Is that the kind of people you're talking about? If someone wants to complain about it, here is where it is done. By the same token, I could tell you to take your posts somewhere else, please.

reply

you: "you could always try and justify your 1/10 ratin"
also you: "People like you are exactly the reason why I made the post. Take your complaints elsewhere, please"

hypocrite of the week award, easily.

reply

Louis dying, being wrapped up and painted then thrown in a van - complete with a cleverly-orchestrated text from Evan's phone to Louis's that would make Evan the primary suspect - is not a plot hole

reply

that's funny, IMDB thinks it is : ) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3605418/trivia

reply

and everybody else with a brain thinks so as well. :D

reply

I gave it 3/10

Well deserved.

It's that man again!!

reply

I'd love to watch you explode with rage when you watch a movie that actually deserves a 3 star rating. What a sheltered life you must lead.

reply

That's quite unnecessary, let's be fair.

I gave it a 4 and I've seen a lot of films I'd consider 'bad'. On the flipside I don't feel it necessary to draw conclusions about people that actually liked it.

reply

Well, I'm only 5mins in and I'm already vomiting from all the cheese being shoved down my throat lol! I'll keep watching though but only because I just can't start a movie without finishing it no matter how bad it seems. Not sure it's gonna get any better through.

UPDATE........
Guys... If this ever happens to you, ITS A SET UP! Lmao! I would say he got what he deserved but the girls went way too far. He should of just called the police when he had the chance. Did they all get a razzie for their outstanding performances? Lol! Just terrible. But it passed the time I guess.

reply

Why exactly are you posting your rubbish here? "OMG these people are soo stupid!!1" I can't believe that there are still people that can't get it through their heads that characters in film are not REAL PEOPLE.

reply

Umm... Do you even know what a quote is? LOL! Would you mind pointing out to me, where it was that I said "OMG these people are soo stupid!!1" or where I implied I thought this movie was real life??? Lmao! Seems like your trolling, anger issues are the least of your problems.

Some advice... Sweetheart, you're obviously desperately lonely and have way too much time on your hands and use the net to troll for attention you lack in real life. But please, can you at least try be good at it.

reply

I don't have time for morons like you, not going to explain something so simple that you don't seem to understand.

reply

Hmm.... You sure told me huh! Lmao!

"Feel free to discuss here the reasons people have for being so horribly offended and upset about this movie, acting like it's literal garbage and not just the slightly above average quality thriller that it is"

There's a quote for you. Yours lol!!! Guess I don't know what a discussion is too huh considering I read this thread and see people doing exactly what you've asked, only for you to respond with telling them to "take their complaints elsewhere" ect and attempted put downs lol. You might want to go back to school, get a dictionary or/and ask your doctor to change your meds.

reply

"I don't have time for morons like you"

your post proofs otherwise. hypocrite.

reply

Actually the first half hour wasn't that bad, when I thought something new and fresh and intriguing might happen.

But no, it dissolved into a very formulaic, by the book movie. I hoped there might be some payoff in why the girls were doing this, but there wasn't even that.

Gee Woodle, Space Kadoodle!

reply

And is there something inherently wrong with a "formulaic" film? No, there isn't. A well-made but "formulaic" film does not deserve a 1/10. It may not win an Oscar, but there's no reason it can't be a decent and entertaining film. You've been on this site for a while I see, this is some basic logic that I think you should be able to understand by now.

reply

Sure, there are times I want to see a formulaic movie. I love the Marvel Avengers, and you could say they are formulaic.

But the movies I continue to love through the years, are ones that gave me something I never expected.

Gee Woodle, Space Kadoodle!

reply

The point of this discussion is that people seem to think this is an absolutely terrible film that deserves a score 1-3 out of 10, when obviously this deserves much higher rating, something like 6-7 at least. It's technically proficient, well-structured, well-acted, a totally average film. Yet for some reason, the score is less than 5, because of the thousands of idiots that rate the film 1/10, for no reason.

reply

You seem to defend your work so eagerly, Mr Roth?)
People may like or dislike it, not everyone has your tastes. And them disliking something definitely does not make them idiots. There must be a website where movie experts like yourself are the only people who can vote. IMDB is not it.
It's an ok movie. not a 1, but definitely not captivating enough to be a 6+

reply

This movie sucked i rated it a 1 also to throw off any 10 votes.. If you liked this movie get your head checked and get on meds

reply

Why does it bother you so much if other people don't like it??? You like it, that's great! Others, like me, think it sucked. So how does that effect you? It might be obvious to you that it deserves a 7 but to me, it obviously deserves.... Maybe a 3 and that's only because I get to look at Keanu. Imagine How boring the world would be if we all enjoyed the same things. Also, not liking something that you do, doesn't make the other an idiot. I could say attempting to quote someone without actually using a single thing that was said, could qualify someone as an idiot though. (In case you missed it, I'm referring to your above msgs directed at me lol)

reply

the thousands of idiots that rate the film 1/10, for no reason

Thousands of people say it's bad, you and a small handful say it was good. I have to agree with the majority that this movie was awful. I'd compare it to 90 minutes of nails on a chalkboard, it was that irritating. I like Eli Roth, even the stuff other people hate, so I thought there'd be no way this could be as bad as everyone says. Ugh, wrong. If I wrote the plot summary, it would sound like this: "two smoking hot girls bust up your stuff after having sex with you." It wasn't scary, wasn't suspenseful, wasn't much of anything but irritating.

And I'll tell you what, the one thing on these boards worse than the "trolls" are the idiotic fans. You telling everyone, be honest it wasn't that bad. How about YOU be honest and admit it wasn't very good? God I hate fans, give me a troll any day.

reply

If you watched the movie you would get hints as to why they are doing this.

reply

I gave it a 5. It's a competently made movie, but its extremely aggravating and winds up going nowhere.

reply

It's a bit overrated if you ask me. I gave it a 2. I watched it despite the low ratings here and at other credible movie sites because often horror movies get low ratings in general. Being a horror fan I give the genre a bit more leeway than I do others.

Sadly this movie was garbage. A silly "plot" coupled with painfully bad acting does not make for an enjoyable movie experience. I'm not a fan of the "home invasion" sub genre anyway but this crap was truly the worst example of that type film I have seen.

I seriously doubt Roth has any more good films in him.

reply

You know what is so funny? You criticise all the people who gave this film a 1 (which I have not seen but it sounds like it would be on my most hated list) and funny enough, you're favorite film of all time is Hard Candy which is hilariously my most hated film (along with The Thing prequel). I didn't say worst film ever made but my most hated, two different lists. I'm not going to go into severe details about why I hate that film but I'll sum it up, that film was feminazi garbage. Knock Knock sounds like the same thing.

Now before you call me sexist, I'm a guy and by the definition I am a feminist (meaning I'm all for gender equality) but Hard Candy and Knock Knock are completely man hating films and Hard Candy was sadly critically well received. Hell, in Hard Candy, the supposed villain is much more likeable than Ellen Page's character who was the worst protagonist I have ever seen in a film (you're supposed to like her).

Also, Eli Roth is one of the worst filmmakers working today, The Green Inferno was my most hated film of last year (P.S. his wife can't act) and Hostel is the only decent film he made and the only aspect I really like about Hostel is it's third act which his sequel completely ruined. So, yeah, he is pretty damn bad in my book, can't write good characters to save his life.

reply

I have to correct one thing. In hard candy, he wasn't the supposed villain, he was a villain. And also, I was suppose to like Ellen pages character? Oops, I missed that memo lol! I couldn't stand her.

For what it was, Green inferno wasn't that bad, cmon lol!

reply

Well, that's why I said supposed villain because he was more likeable than her. If you look at most of the people who like the film, they say she is a badass character and you root for her throughout the film. There is also some who like the film that say her character is supposed to be unlikeable but when I saw the film, I didn't see any evidence of that and if it was done, it was done very poorly as I hated her character. If you want to see that done right, watch There Will Be Blood.

As for The Green Inferno, to each their own but I despised that film. The acting was awful as was the dialogue. Unlikeable and uninteresting characters and the villains were laughable (the leader of the tribe looked like Johnny Depp in make up). Also, talk about an ending that insults the audience, I already hated the film up until then but that gave me more reason to hate the film. Sorry about the rant.

reply

Lmao! You rant like me. Lol!

I watched this movie awhile ago so I'm going off memory which is bad at its best. I was never once thought she was badass, I thought she was nuts to be honest. I mean... We didn't even really know for sure if he had anything to do with it anyway until the end. People are just weird.

reply

"If you look at most of the people who like the film, they say she is a badass character and you root for her throughout the film."

that's wrong and beside the point. she was a psychopath and jeff was involved in the mass raping and murder of an uderage girl. it was done intentionally that he hid behind that mask of a charming, attractive guy.

reply

I just don't see that in the film, yes, Jeff is supposed to be a bad person but I believe you are supposed to root for her in a vigilante sort of way. I thought it was poorly done, the fact that I was rooting for a rapist over a vigilante (I love vigilante films by the way) is just awful.

reply

actually no, we are not. both characters are portrayed in a grey area, this is not an exploitation or revenge film. jeff gets dismantled throughout the film and his true evil nature isn't shown until very late in the film. hailey is portrayed as a psychopath. if it was supposed tobe taken the way you did, there would have been a clean line. good vs evil. there isn't. it was intentionally that jeff wasn't portrayed as the disgusting, ugly monster we expect this kind of predators to be. furthermore, she does not even kill him, she gives him a choice.

"I thought it was poorly done,"

i disagree.

"the fact that I was rooting for a rapist over a vigilante"

that's a legit choice, not mine, but within the goals of the film legit. polarisation is an important factor here.

"I love vigilante films by the way"

there lies the "problem". it is not a vigilante film.

reply

Maybe it was just me but I immediately thought the film was going to make him guilty, maybe it was because of the plot that was on the on demand service but it didn't seem like it was supposed to be a twist. It wasn't like say, Memento (masterpiece by the way). If it was supposed to be a big reveal then I go back to my opinion that it was poorly done. When I brought up vigilante films, I wasn't necessarily saying Hard Candy is one, I was merely bringing up that I love those type of characters in films. While I wouldn't classify Hard Candy as a straight out vigilante film, Page's character was certainly one.

Hey man, it's cool you love the film, Hard Candy is one of those few films that I hate that everybody else loves. I'm in the minority on this one.

reply

the thing is that it is a movie whose main goal is not entertainment. actually even if it is a torture to watch, it is one of my all time favorite movies. there is no clean line. IMHO it is comparable to films like haneke's "funny games", that is many times misunderstood as a horror film, which could not be more bside the point.

yes, jeff is portrayed as guilty from the very beginning. he is a grown man, meeting with a supposedly 14 year old girl that actually looks like 12 and luresher to his home. that alone should worry the viewer from the very beginning, but the movie leaves us in the dark as to what extend he is guilty and of what exactly until late in the film. there is no supposed twist.

hey, no prob man. btw, we both dig memento.

"Hard Candy is one of those few films that I hate that everybody else loves"

yeah, i can relate. for me that would be "martyrs" (original). people love it, but overall i think it was a pointless disaster.

reply

no offense, but i think both of you missed the point of hard candy, which wasn't a good vs evil thing or even a horror film to begin with.

reply

I never considered Hard Candy a horror film and while I don't see that portrayed as necessarily good vs. evil, I do think the filmmaker's intentions were for the audience to root for Ellen Page's character in a vigilante sense. Hell, I just watched Don't Breathe, all the characters in that were massively unlikeable but the audience was supposed to root for the lead even though she was a criminal (sometimes that works but not in those two films). My point is, those films I believe intended for the audience to root for the less evil character, even though Page's character is a criminal, she is not portrayed as evil as Wilson's character. Just my opinion of the film.

reply

"I never considered Hard Candy a horror film and while I don't see that portrayed as necessarily good vs. evil, I do think the filmmaker's intentions were for the audience to root for Ellen Page's character in a vigilante sense. "

i answered to that in the other post.

"Hell, I just watched Don't Breathe"

i could not make it through half of it.

"My point is, those films I believe intended for the audience to root for the less evil character"

sorry to repeat myself, i don't want to get onto your nerves, but in case of hard candy it is simply not that simple.
