I was thinking that too, especially after the Enron reference.
I guess the show just wants to keep it simple and revisit 1995 when you could still smoke in a bar, used dial-up to access the Internet, etc.
Of course, how much history do you change? She would destroy the definite future of the next 20 years.
Even if she stopped 9/11, maybe Osama bin Laden then would have gotten lucky with the Sears Tower or other targets at some point. Even if one evil is stopped through time travel, how can you be sure that you won't unleash similar or worse evils (not deliberately of course)?
