I find her very annoying.

She comes off as too much of a Bitch. Even if she had cured Cancer,Diabetes and Aids... she still shouldn't act like such a stuck up bitch all the time.

I've just watched the second episode and I don't think I can't keep watching this show if I keep feeling annoyed by her.

Add the fact that the stories haven't been that interesting so far doesn't help....I'm probably only going to give this show 1 or 2 more episodes before I stop watching.

I am really confused too, because I am not sure if it's the Actress that annoys me or the words the character is saying.

Like the scene where the guy wants to jump off the hospital roof...the way she talks to him.... is it the script or the actress that annoyed me.. idk.

She is nice then there are times she is just too Bitchy.

I think I had this problem with Claire Danes/Carrie Mathison from homeland too... it was hard to watch at first because I found her so annoying. But eventually I got used to her facial expressions.

for those commenting about the character's attitude...that is part of the progression and development of the character. she is hard nosed, egocentric, narcissistic and through her research into the afterlife, is becoming softer, more open and letting her walls down. you can see it especially in the last 2 or 3 episodes. as she must face the fact that doctors and more specifically science is not the be all, end all, she will face her own fallability. you can see it when she grabs the hand of Zed, when she hugs her daughter in the hospital...she's getting there

I give you a 'perhaps'. Jennifer Beals likely took the script and went with it, but even within the arcs of her character background and writing she just doesn't bring enough to the table to make Dr. Tyler into a character to root for, unlike House M.D.

The arrogance and insuperability in Hugh Laurie's portrayal was balanced by his near godlike diagnostic mind, and the supporting characters who were his 'hands and feet'. The supporting cast for 'Proof' may be diverse, but not sympathetic enough to act as foils for Kate Tyler's opinions and investigations.

Unfortunately 'Proof' doesn't have enough humour to be funny, or drama to be serious. Premise is interesting but the writing brought the show down.

What could have been more interesting for a season 2 plot, would be when Turing died and started haunting Dr. Tyler, protagonist and antagonist both.

Yes, her character is a witch. She has grown very cold. Her son died. She blames herself. Her husband cheated on her and her parents blame her for the relationship ending. Those ordeals could change anyone. I didn't like her character either. However, it's all completely integral to the story and the journey she undertakes as a person. Her growth, or rebirth as a warm and loving individual and mother is the character arc of the show. You aren't supposed to like her at the beginning, but turn off the series to your detriment, because it is a great show.
