people complaining about the changes

are there any interviews with the game creator. I think there are plenty of writers out there who, several years after writing something, would like to go back and make changes. So perhaps these are changes that make the story better. I don't know in this case as I never played the game. But certainly felt that some changes in some movies/shows improved a book that I read.
