filing cabinet

Why does Pride lock his gun in the filing cabinet? It drives me crazy. Don't most cops wear them? What if he needs access fast? I've never noticed any of the other guys locking up their guns on the other csi or ncis shows.

It's mentioned near the beginning of episode 3 in this season. Pride is on his way out to investigate a crime and retrieves his gun. Gregorio (the FBI agent) comments:

Gregorio: [You] keep your weapon in a file cabinet?
Pride: A locked file cabinet.
I've always liked the file cabinet "quirk" - as others in this thread have pointed out, it makes sense.

I wonder if the idea was the writers' or Bakula's?

Oh my lord!!!! I thought I was the only one this bothered. And I thought it was over when he took the other job. Now he is back and there he goes with the stupid cabinet and gun thing again. If you look closely at the other agents, the majority of the time, they keep their weapons on their belt. Why he puts his away, I will never understand. Thank you for this post.
