filing cabinet

Why does Pride lock his gun in the filing cabinet? It drives me crazy. Don't most cops wear them? What if he needs access fast? I've never noticed any of the other guys locking up their guns on the other csi or ncis shows.

Huh? How can you miss Gibbs retrieve his gun when they leave the bullpen? Only reason Pride is doing it, to maintain this routine.

Eel said it basically, but ALL the NCIS members in D.C. put their guns (and badges, I'm pretty sure) in their desk drawers while in the Bullpen- you can often see at least one member of the team quickly opening a drawer and grabbing them.

And if I'm remembering right, in tonight's (4/28) episode when Brody was on the phone with Pride about the house that the bartender lived in, after or as he told her to go learn things, she was in her desk drawer getting her gun as well.

It's just more obvious when Pride does it because he puts it in the filing cabinet. Why the filing cabinet and not a desk drawer? I don't know. But it really doesn't bother me.

Thanks. I actually just started watching the other ncis shows because of this one. It's just a detail I haven't noticed in other shows.

CSI shouldn't even have guns,but that's a different story.
Brody & La Salle lock their guns in their desk draws

The NCIS facility in DC is a secure building. Note how visitors are escorted to the bullpen. In New Orleans, the building is not secure, so it makes no sense to lock up guns- anyone could walk in off the street. Speaking of fast access, the small of back carry shown on NO is a dumb way to carry them. The series is light on procedures dealing with firearms.

I find it stranger that Pride uses a big ass revolver in some eps, wouldn't NCIS/government procedure be to carry a pistol?

You're correct, NCIS agents have been issued Sig-Sauer pistols for a long time. They're currently on their second generation of them:

NCIS contract calls for over 2,000 pistols to replace the aging fleet of refurbished M11 (SIG P228) pistols purchased more than 15 years ago.

The issued gun goof was mentioned here:

The problem I see with it here is, unlike NCIS:VA and :LA, they don't operate out of a secure location. You can walk off the street right into their offices. Leaving their weapons in a desk drawer or even the impenetrable $5,000 (odds are the GSA bought it at a "fair" price) file cabinet is dangerous. Then you realize they're imitating a government agency on the show, so it all makes sense.

reply

You can't, it's been mentioned a few times they have a guard at the door. "your guard let me in" was the exact line in one of the early episodes when someone came to see Pride.

reply

It's really annoying. I think it's supposed to be his character's "thing", but it's just annoying because he's usually talking & in a hurry & has to find his keys & unlock the drawer, etc, etc. I think they thought it would be endearing if something, but it is annoying.
And so is Sebastian.

reply

I figured it was just a gimmick for him. Although it does make sense that since the building isn't so secure he'd keep it in a more secure place than his desk.

reply

Thanks for the answers. I'll have to be more aware of what the others do. Especially gibbs. I just figured cops carry them on them all the time. Wondered if it was an anti gun statement from the writers.

reply

Really? The best you can come up with? I suppose if you see an old west movie and everyone has to give up their weapons at the town line you would think that was also the writers being anti gun rather than historically correct. 😒

No need to be rude. Others answered my post nicely.

Adam-12 ran from 1968-1975. They were LAPD. On various episodes when they went into the police station, I clearly remembering them locking up their guns or getting them out again when they were ready to leave. Thinking about it, it's possible they only did that when they went to certain areas of the police station where they might encounter the public but I'm not sure. I'm just trying to remember if I ever noticed them with their guns still in their holsters in the staff cafeteria or briefing room, for instance.

As said you often see them retrieving or putting their guns in secure places on NCIS. I can't remember off top of my head ever seeing it on NCIS LA but i've also never noticed them walk around their office with guns on them.

It's not just NCIS though it's most cop shows you see it done. It's regulation. On Southland you use to often even see uniforms do it. Even on The Shield with the Strike Team who are hardly people that followed the rules you'd often see them take their guns off and put them away when in their club room.
