Heroes is a metaphor for the LGBT community.

They are being chased by bigots.

reply

I wasn't aware that members of the LGBT community had super powers and had the ability to save the world from dark forces.

Troll on Lola, troll on!

reply

Do you know what metaphor means? Now who looks like an idiot?

reply

Says the troll who didn't even take the time to look up the word bigot in the dictionary.

reply

Did I hit a nerve, honey?

reply

Yes. And as stated, I was not aware that members of the LGBT community had super powers, and saved the world.

Heroes is not a metaphor for one specific group. Trolling, as usual Lola.

And name calling as well... typical troll behavior when you're proven wrong.

reply

Why do you keep bringing up super powers?

No one has ever said gays have super powers. If they did, that's news to me.

It's called a METAPHOR. METAPHOR.

Say it with me.... M-E-T-A-P-H-O-R.

It's not literal. What point of that don't you understand?

reply

He doesn't know what a metaphor is.

This season has definitely had several nods toward the LGBT community thus far.

"Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." -- C.S.Lewis

He doesn't know what a metaphor is.
 Sure I don't... what why I only stated this:
Heroes is not a metaphor for one specific group.

What part of that was too difficult for YOU to understand?

reply

It's called a METAPHOR. METAPHOR.
And as stated... Heroes is not a metaphor for one specific group.

What part of reading that line was too difficult for you to understand? Do I need to say "metaphor" again? Scroll up...

What point of it is not a metaphor for ONE specific group do you not understand?

The Heroes metaphor applies to anyone.

reply

Until we see two guys kiss.

Then they become a flag for the LGBT community.

Okay how about 2 girls?

reply

of course it's a metaphor for the GLBT community. Heroes is heavily influenced by the X-Men which in turn was based on the history of the GLBT movement.

Like gays, mutants/EVOs realize their "gift" around puberty.

Both gays and EVO's must often hide who they are. Though some maybe accepting, there are still many who hate and fear them.

Gays have absolutely been hunted and targeted by straights. Look at what's happening in the middle east and Africa. Openly being gay and lesbian could get you killed.

reply

With the added difference that a segment of society with special abilities actually HAS a real potential to be a danger to everyone else, while the LGBT community in and of itself does not. (There are elements among all segments of society that everyone is better off if they just keep to themselves.)

reply

Actually x-men had something to do with the black race not the gays.Magneto was created from Malcolm X,and professor X was created from MLK.You can look this up

reply

No, MLK and Malcolm weren't quite making the public perception yet when X-Men began. the real comparisons of Charles/MLK and Magneto/Malcolm X didn't really come along until the 90s, and then that's all anyone talked about.

I don't recall any lettercol or Comic Shop News/Comics Scene, or other article mentioning this comparison back in the late 70s or anytime during the 80s when I was getting into comics.

If anything it's a metaphor for the muslim community after 9/11.

reply

Imho it's not about just persecuted minorities like LGBT. Minorities don't hurt other people it's just about archaic morals. In real life I'm not sure on what side I would be. I mean realistically. So there are people who can make me forget anything - manipulate me - change the past - take my freedom. Are you ok to be a play ball for a group of super powerful people? With super heroes ethics change.

It's a bit like the Sith and Jedies. The Sith believe because there are humans with super power it's inevitable those with the most power will rule. So you need to create a society with the most powerful super human ruling everybody. And that ideology is not necessarily unethical. Would you want stupid and weak people to rule?

Our ethics are defined by our mortality and our love for our own children and the fact that all humans are more or less equal to another. From that you can "derive" more ethical rules. If you don't want your own child to suffer then you want rules in society to protect all. Even the super rich want laws and order to protect against crimes and anarchy.

The evos break these basic rules that define such an ethical framework.

reply

No, X-Men was a metaphor for the LGBT community.

Heroes is a ripoff of that metaphor.

reply

NO! it was not

reply

Ok there buddy.

You know there is a thing called internet? There are search engines and wikis where one can look up *beep* ans stuff

reply

You realize you said literally nothing as your argument, right?

Saying "Google it" when you don't have a f)ckin thing to address in the Google Search means you don't have anything to say, but want to sound witty.

This was sad.
