Heroes is a metaphor for the LGBT community.

They are being chased by bigots.

reply

It's a metaphor for every "persecuted" group in history.

But nice attempt at a lame troll though.

Trolling? Pointing out something is trolling now?
Idiot.

reply

yes, you're trolling.

Just like all those "this show is racist posts" on every shows forum.

Considering how many groups currently have to deal with bigotry, it's not so much pointing something out, it's pointing out 5th Avenue instead of New York City.

If at first you don't succeed, keep trying til you find someone to blame.

reply

Your sig would be better as..

"If at first you don't succeed, maybe skydiving isn't for you"

reply

No, that would be on the tombstone, not an IMDB board.

If at first you don't succeed, keep trying til you find someone to blame.

reply

No, this series is running heavy on the gay/lesbian thing (especially with one picketer carrying the sign that says "God hates Evos").

The original series is a bit more broad than that (the Fugitives story being heavy on the whole government and civil liberties thing).

reply

This is like saying the x-men was about the LGBT community. It's about any group that is persecuted for their "differences".

Why does everything need to be spelled out for people.

reply

Like X-Men, all the EVOs are a metaphor for persecuted groups. They are a minority of some kind who want to organize but are afraid of either being shunned by the loved ones or killed.

Though, I do see your point of it being more akin to LGBT than any of other minority. With X-Men, we get levels of mutation that can represent different minorities. For instance, just like how people can't hide their skin color, we get mutants who can't hide their mutation (like the Morlocks). But, like how people can hide their sexuality, we get mutants who CAN hide their mutation (like the majority of the X-men).

In Heroes, I don't recall any EVOs who look different. Just having powers that make them different. Thus, they can hide what they are by simply not showing their gifts. Some find it easier than others. Thus, I can see how you'd like them to the LGBT community more so than racial or socioeconomic minorities.

I thought that when Noah said he and Claire had a fight because she "came out", it was because she hooked up with Gretchen. I haven't seen the originally since the series finale, but I remember something between her and Gretchen.

reply

CLAIRE!s "coming out" was the exposing her ability on a live newscast for the world to see EVOs existed.

I thought about this because of the rainbow colored signs at the event in the beginning. And the other stuff you mentioned. I'm really cool.

Watched the premier. Not once did "gay" or "lesbian" or any thought whatsoever on the LGBT community ever cross my mind.

If it is a metaphor, it's a dang extreme one. The LGBT aren't hunted and killed and rounded up and put in camps...or tested at the boarder trying to get into Canada.

Considering that 'coming out' is absolutely associated with the LBGT community and LGBT issues are all over the news I am surprised it isn't the first thing everyone thought of.

reply

That is true, common term for sure. But I've seen Heroes and am familiar with the concept of the show and Claire, so I knew exactly what he meant.

reply

*eyeroll* Oh please. Hate crimes are FAR cry from being hunted by your government and assassins. There are hate crimes against everybody (yes, even against white people). Not even in the same vicinity of being close to being in the same realm as what is happening on Heroes Reborn.

Then it looks like no community ever crossed your mind whatsoever. LGBT crossed my mind after seeing the poster with "God Hates EVOs"

reply

you should learn your history, That sign has been used for all different groups throughout history.

Anyway, Heroes is loosely centered around X-men, which was created to parallel the civil rights movement. So both series are essentially based on the hatred for african americans in this country. (Many of the characters were even given different color skin to show this) BUT all groups that have been persecuted can draw from it.

reply

Are you an idiot? It's a METAPHOR. Look it up. It doesn't mean literal.

No, I don't think there is a secret government agency or assisans hunting down gay folks. But you can't deny in many countries in the world (the middle east & Africa) it is perfectly legal and accepted to murder gays and lesbians for no other reason than for being gay.

Inform yourself before you speak. It's a sad, sad, world out there for many GLBT folks.

There's a lot more too it than that though. It's not just because they are a minority. It's because they are a dangerous weaponized minority. The public reaction wouldn't be the same if they had harmless powers. If all they could do was make their fingers sparkle colorful lights like a sparkler, or levitate 6 inches off the ground, or fart monkey sounds then you wouldn't see the hate. They wouldn't be hunted and killed for that.

Sad truth of the matter is you have what's equivalent to people walking around with shotguns, flamethrowers, rocket launchers, machine guns, grenades, or crashing economies because they can turn any object to solid gold.

It's fear. It's not bigotry. Bigots dislike/hate because they oppose a lifestyle or thnik someone lesser. In Heroes they don't hate Evos because they are different. They may not hate them at all (obviously there are some exceptions who would). They are terrified of them because they have powerful weapons they can use at any time, and those weapons are not regulated.
