They want way too much from child actor Millie Bobby Brown

Switching between multiple characters is tough thing to do for grown-up actors, but asking a child to do that is asking too much. She's not good, which is not her fault - she's simply too young and inexperienced for the task. I've never seen a child acting well as an adult and it's the same here. Her acting is so off-putting it ruins each scene. Then again, it's what the book dictated. So while I understand the filmmakers dilemma, I still think it's like watching an experiment gone wrong.

I respectfully disagree. I loved her character throughout. I admit that when she was actually Madison, the little girl, she was just average. When she was Marcus Fox, however, she was spectacular! She reminded me of that Hayley girl who was in the remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark a couple of years ago. I think Millie was very wise beyond her years. Think about the things she did actually do as Marcus. I think she really thought about her choices and how she behaved. She was the best part of the show. I was cracking up each time that James Frain would fail to execute her/Marcus. Hilarious!

Even in comparison to some woodstiff adult acting she is quite good. In the beginning of the series, at the introduction fase, I thought she performed a whole lot better than at the end.

I do however would have liked it better if there where more definite mimicking differences between Madison and Marcus so you could tell, even at times she did not speak, gave money or waved her knive, that in actuality we were watching Marcus instead of Madison.

Overall great performance.

Captain Hindsight here: She is absolutely outstanding as Eleven in Stranger Things (2016). Magnificently talented.

True. The discussion whether she has the talent is pretty much settled with that.

Then again, Eleven does not talk. And she does especially not talk with dialogue lines of some old guy (who seems to be entirely unaware of being trapped in the body of a little girl).
