Argh! Just when we have an Asian male lead...

This stinks. Just when we have an Asian male lead on American TV, they cancel the show. Asian men have been consistently marginalized by Western media to the point where we are nothing but sexless geeks, delivery guys, gangsters, or martial artists. Selfie was FINALLY a show where an Asian man was a main character. Sure, Henry does have major shortcomings, such as being stern, humorless, uptight, and a loner, but at least we is depicted as successful and attractive to non-Asian women.

I do agree that John Cho is a fantastic actor and it's too bad that he can't catch a break on TV. He does great work in film though.

I'm not Asian but agree we r long overdue for an Asian leading man. John Cho is perfect mix of cute/hot and I really liked his character on the show. really disappointed this got cancelled.

Keep in mind that the show got cancelled by the network and not because of ratings.

This show should have been on cable, or, it should have had a better title.

Lets not just blame the network they did give the show a chance and gambled on an Asian male lead instead of the intended White british male. They axed manhattan love story almost immediately for a 0.7 rating so when Selfie touched 0.9 they were pretty much done especially that 1 hour special slot which drew sh_t. Where the F was all the Asian community support? They talk a good game first Asian this that but were they even tuning in? Probably too busy supporting the first Black fill in the blank..HIlarious.

go watch the documentary called the Slanted Screen.

It talks about how Asian males were actually very sexy and very well liked back in the 1920s and 1930s, then when Hitler pushed out all the Jews who dominated European cinema, they came to America and when they came here they disliked the fact quite a few Asian MEN were well established leads, so they systematically started pushing the Asian males out of main roles and started writing Asian males as weak, and always scheming and bad lovers.... so does those traits sound familiar to you? Yeah they are the same racist traits placed upon Jews in Europe and they decided to come to America and place those despicable traits onto Asians.

Go watch the film The Slanted Screen it will enlighten you.

Jon Cho is the reason I started watching this show. I absolutely love him. He has been in a couple of good shows that were cancelled. I agree we need to see an Asian male lead on American TV & Cho is just the man for the part. I also love that a gorgeous red-head was the female lead (I'm a fellow red-head).

US shows just became too stale either with whites or blacks, god damn it have some variety!

No they didn't become stale with "Blacks"... Still mostly "White"...

As the white female in an Asian male/white female relationship, it was so refreshing to see a representation of our relationship on screen. If you just went by what you saw on tv, you'd think that couples like us don't even exist in the world! I am trying to find every way that I can to save the show mostly because I love the story and writing but also because I appreciate the promotion of an Asian American leading man and interracial relationships.

There have been scheduled tweet blasts every few days to different providers asking that they pick the show up.

The next tweet blast is to Hulu on the 30th at 8 pm. Tweet to them and ask them to save Selfie! You can see what other things we are doing to save Selfie here http://saveselfiemovement.wordpress.com/ .

There are a ton of us on Twitter trying to save the show. Just search the tag #saveSelfie! And you can also email customer support for Hulu and Netflix asking them to save it. The more of us they hear from, the better!

I know this thread was from 2014, but I just finished watching this in Hulu.
Have you seen Crazy Ex Girlfriend? The main love interest is asian too. And the show is very good, after watching that Hulu recommended Selfie, and that's how I got to see it. The have been renewed for a second season, though they had low rating. I definitely recommend it.
