Love is never equal

While everyone seems to be interpreting this film as somewhat of a tragedy, I don't think it is. Because where there is love, there is beauty – even love faded is beautiful. Why? Because it is better to of love and lost than never to have loved at all. And in a 45 year marriage, rather than say it was a sham, I think it was more of a development that happened. It doesn't disqualify the other parts of the marriage that happened.

And even though I think she chooses to leave him at the end, it's not sad. They had 45 years together, and it's just life. It would have been truly sad if they didn't have those 45 years together and left as a young couple, with a few kids, sharing custody back and forth and child support. That would be tragic for the children. The children would be the victims. But in this case, – there is no victim here, except the victims of life (which we all are). But, true love never dies – it's just not equal, and that's the true message of the film, I think.

And speaking of the true message of this movie, many fans of this film have discussed the significance of the songs that are heard throughout it and how they offer clues to what this movie truly means. And, in addition to all the songs that are already in the film, this song by Jill Sobule, called LOVE IS NEVER EQUAL should have been in it too, as it explains the true meaning of this movie perfectly!

I recommend all fans of this movie (and those who didn't understand the film) to listen to it:

Yeah. It was a bit rubbish, whatever underwhelming meaning one attaches to it.
