ending
the end was a bit confusing, but it was an ok movie overall
shareSpoiler alert:
It didn't fit with the rest of the movie. He didn't then need the boy to talk since he knew what had really happened.
Yes, he did need the boy to talk. It didn't matter what he already knew. It was about the reveal to the audience. That's the twist.
<---Bella's "Kiss Me" Face
He didn't. He narrated that he needed the boy to talk to him to mount a defense. He knew what had happened so he could then have went with anything.
The reveal was good but they should have better planned by writing something different for the non speaking thing.
Well the lawyer's big thing is about every witness lying about something and their job just being about figuring out why.
Narration is essentially being a witness and recounting events.
If you think about it that way it's quite clever.
He didn't. He narrated that he needed the boy to talk to him to mount a defense.
Okay, I could buy him worried about being outed if he believed the kid knew what had happened.
It though seemed like he needed him to talk to mount a defense and said something about it. It's been awhile since I saw it. Mystery writing basics is not to throw off the reader/viewer with something which cancels someone out because the reader/viewer doesn't like it. It's one thing not to spell it out and part of the fun is trying to figure it out but cancelling something makes one discount certain people or things.
I wish they'd added something like you suggested in your post. That would have been better, in my opinion.
He didn't know if the son saw him, or knew what he did.... The boy could of said anything that messed with husband narrative he had planned.
shareIf he knew that the son saw the watch he would've been glad that he didn't talk, but he only knew this at the very end.
shareHe knew what happened, but he needed to pretend he didn't know what happened.
