Decent movie. Just nothing perfect

The musical numbers in this movie were actually pretty nice, the acting from all involved is pretty good (with Emma Thompson stealing the show as Miss Trunchbull), and the cinematography is pretty, but unfortunately the story could have been more focused and I wish the main character Matilda could've been less one-dimensional (not blaming the child actress, mind you.)

I get that the producers were doing a different interpretation, but it misses the whole point of what Matilda is. Yes, the 1996 movie was an Americanized adaptation, but at least it did a way better job in acknowledging the point of the story of Matilda. The 1996 Matilda was shy, but also took some risks. The 2022 Matilda, while not bad, is just a little too posh... at least for my tastes.

That being said, this was a decent movie.
