Is everyone on this post insane??

Just watched "Cake" after reading Ms. Aniston's complaints about her Oscar "snub" and cannot see how anyone in their right mind would ever have thought she could be awarded anything for such an incredibly amateurish acting job. I realize that today's film industry is woefully in desperate need of talent but has the standard of excellence fallen so low that people actually believe that the pointless and empty mediocrity of a film like "Cake" is award worthy?

Apparently Jennifer has no concept of what a great film performance by an actress is but I am really surprised to see so many supposed film fans here confusing her ambition with talent right along with her.

We're now in an era of actors being awarded for all the wrong reasons. They are not talented enough to inspire people from the inside so instead they wear scars, or prosthetic noses, or take off or gain 40 pounds to give a performance on the outside and are shamelessly blatant about expecting to be awarded for it! And they DO get awarded for it! But Jennifer Aniston's obvious and clueless, blind ambition in this regard really takes the "Cake."

Matthew McConaughty is very good for a long time.

JA and this film... The film is not good. I couldn't find any meaning... I didn't feel anything. And what's happened in the end? What is the point the film or Claire reached? JA is not in nice suits, no nice hair and no nice make up, that's all.

The reason for me to write this post is to say / ask you that WHY do you Americans and the Academy of course think that playing a sick or handicapped role with a make-up or hair other than we used to it, or the actor/actress lost or got kilos, is enough to get an Oscar?? Examples Rain Man, My Left Foot, Al Pacino in Woman Scent, roles with aids, and what was the name of the film with a woman serial killer...?? All in these actor/actress was with make up or with kilos, or sick... Can't a "normal" role get an award? Even Matthew McConaughty got Oscar for a part in wich he's very different that we used to see him; thin, with moustache...

Sorry for the English mistakes since it is not my native language.

Jennifer Is not the best actress in the world. Just because she aapeared without make-up does not translate to good acting. She will always have fans that will love anything she does and ther will be those of us that don't think much of her acting. My opinion is that she has been greatly overpaid, but is good to get it if you can, so I do not begrudge her that! - However, she should not be expecting awards for her performances because she is not that good of an actress.....I like her but do not like her acting....since its release about 3 weeks ago, the movie has made less money than her salary, most probably.....

This is a very depressing movie. Chronic pain is horrible. That being said, I think Aniston did a great job. She "acted" like she was in great pain and "acted" like a very depressed person. I think she should have been nominated. It doesn't mean she should win, but she certainly "acted" like a real depressed, in chronic pain person to me. Just my opinion!

Do you have any links proving Aniston expected awards? I looked but could find none. She's normally a pretty level headed person with a healthy self-deprecating sense of humour, so expecting to be rewarded sounds very out of character for her.

Jennifer Aniston played the same bland character as she did in The Good Girl. If you want to watch a good movie with the same exact premise, see Chrystal with Lisa Blount and Billy Bob Thornton. Awesome movie. Cake is a ripoff of that movie.

Jesus! Sadness is sadness, it doesn't matter the cause.
And you can think whatever you want to, but people are different and we have to respect this.
I think you should treat this anger like Clare. You and everyone here who don't know how to be nicer in life.

I thought the story sounded interesting.
So, I just watched the trailer to decide if I wanted to see it.
Admittedly, I have not seen the movie, but the trailer looked terrible to me.
The acting and scenes just didn't come across as real to me at all.

I'm going to pass, since the acting looks terrible & everything just ridiculously staged.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people love it though.

P.S. I am insane, just not about this.

Totally agree. I used to live with chronic pain so I was really thrilled to finally see a movie about it but it was so bad.

First of all they had to give her scars which was not necessary at all. The sadness of having chronic pain is that people do not see that on your body so they think you are just acting up and you should be tougher on yourself.

Then the acting. Geez that was really not good at all. I do not mind her but she is not a good actor. Well not in this movie. I know how you act when you are in pain but she constantly did the same thing with her face and body.

After watching 30 minutes I gave up.Got so annoyed because normally I am really into the story but this time it was plainly obvious someone was acting. With good actors you forget they are acting.
Plus that the script was also quite ridiculous and let's not forget that the parts where we were supposed to laugh were not funny at all.

The ratings for this movie were more about being friends with Jennifer than based on honesty.

Evidently, just you.
Ms. Anniston is a fine actress and this film is one of the good ones. Probably, just not your bag.
