Do Americans understand this?

I have been a fan of British programing since I was a teen. And I usually have no problems following a show or understanding the dialog through the accents. But I do admit that Ms. Lancashire's some what thick accent and very fast speech do give me reason to keep the remote close at hand!

She is quite brillant in this role.

I live in Pennsylvania and absolutely love this show and Last Tango In Halifax. I have no problem understanding either program.

American here -- I understand it just fine, but I do watch it with subtitles so I don't miss anything. To be fair, I watch all dramas with subtitles (even American ones), so it's not only because the accents are different to my ears. I just don't want a single detail to pass me by. :)

I have to admit I do have a bit of trouble sometimes but I do understand most of it. I also watch a good amount of British TV shows so I feel like I've gotten used to a lot of the different accents. I think this one is a bit tougher because they do tend to talk very quickly due to the fact that it is a cop show so there is a lot of information at once especially in the scenes at the police station. I love it though. I also really enjoyed Last Tango in Halifax but I agree that it did go into soap opera territory in Season 3. Broadchurch is also very good.

Mississippi, USA here. I love it! I've been watching a lot of British TV lately though so I usually don't have any trouble understanding:)

I'm only not sure what the sister Clare does. Is she like a helper at a hospital? Like maybe a candy striper? Is it a paid job or like a volunteer situation?

I'm an American living in Wyoming and my husband and I absolutely love it! I do watch with subtitles also just so I don't miss anything :)

American living in Minnesota and completely loved this. Did have to have CC on for some parts, but understood the rest just fine. But then, I have been enjoying British programming and movies all my adult life.
