Try HBOs show Animals.

Arrested Development, Archer, Bob's Burgers, and Bojack are all kind of in the same universe. They have a lot of the same people working on all 4 of these shows.

I think Shameless is the most similar show to Bojack Horseman, although I haven't watched Rick and Morty. But I have watched Arrested Development and Community and they aren't as dark as neither Bojack nor Shameless, not at all, by far.

You really can see the sadness, the self-hate and the helplessness in this show and in Shameless and they rarely give us a happy ending. They're raw, about messed up characters who can be sometimes horrible human beings, yet you can (kind of) understand them.


They're depressing and, at the same time, hilarious.

You have to check out: Duckman, private dick family man. Extremely similar, even to the extent of mixing human and anthropomorphic animal characters. it ran in the 90's and was way ahead of its time. In fact, Diane is basically an Asian Daria. (Why didn't I see it before though?)

It is not as dark, but I think it is also very funny but also has very smart and true moments.

Californication is basically the live-action version of Bojack Horseman, so I’d go for that.
