Racial BS

I was offended by the racial overtones, although they were presented with some measure of humor. I didn't find it funny or entertaining at all. "Chuy" was presented as a little gangbanger wannabe, dressing and talking like some inner city pachuco. Overall it was a pretty good movie, but, those parts could have been written better without being offensive.

If you don't want racial stereotypes, go out on the street and get the millions of latino gangbanger wannabes to stop acting like gangbanger wannabes.

If Ari Gold saw Chappie he would say:
"Chappie makes Elysium look like Citizen Ć’vcking Kane"

I use to live in a hispanic neighborhood. A lot of hispanics have chihuahuas. Chihuahuas are native to Mexico. Chihuahuas are one of the most popular dog breeds and a lot of people in general have them. I noticed they where very popular in my neighborhood.

Well to be fair, the only "racial overtones" were from Chuy and his relatives, who obviously weren't white. Also, there was nothing offensive about it. Chill out.

You're easily offended and misinformed. Chuy was into off road cycling and dressed like an indie rocker. Plus, he was using east coast / New York slang. If he were a wannabe gangbanger he'd be wearing XXXL white t-shirts, riding a lowrider bicycle and calling everyone "ese" or "homie".

If you watch the movie you know that Chuy was not exactly the smartest person. He referred to Mexicans as a race. The total opposite of Carmen. He is also scared and intimidated throughout the movie. He was scared of Emilio ( even he said to Choy "You can learn from him" ( Justin)) and Max and intimidated by Carmen. Not exactly Mexican Machismo. Basically you get the idea that he Will be a follower in life while Carmen will be a leader. The final five minutes is all you need to see, where you Carmen then Max make him back down and Carmen says " you have to be a superhero to be my boyfriend." In other words she is not settling for less then she deserves in Life, the very opposite of Choy. Justin proved to her that he can be that kind of person by saving his father.

How about you check out the University of Missouri. I hear they have Offense free "Safe spaces" for wimps like you.

Chuy was using those comments as a form of humor. I know of several Hispanic friends and coworkers that do the very same thing.

A black coworker of mine enjoys his title of the biggest racist at work because he cannot stand Obama and prefers blondes.

The only "real" moment of racism (not used for humor) in the film was when The father made the assumption that Carmen's cousin trains dogs for dogfighting rather than rescue. But that's not a condemnation of the show or writers, its a reflection of the character and people do behave that way in real life. Or would you rather the films writers create a world more in tune with your liberal unicorn fart powered fantasy land? you know... just to keep you safe from being hurt and offended.

Like I said... University of Missouri has Safe Spaces for you overly sensitive types.
