Why do they keep mentioning Obama?

In the Marvel Universe there has never been a President Obama, Both Iron Man 3 and Agents of Shield had President Ellis. So why is there so much talk about a failed community organizer of one of Americas worst run and dangerous cities full of gun violence.

reply

The show takes place in Harlem, a predominantly African-American part of New York City. And Obama has been a major influential African-American figure in modern history.

reply

I think Obama was President in this world, but only for one term. Then it was Ellis.

reply

Good explanation, but come on, man. It's clearly just an oversight.

Chad080:
Whoever said he was a "failed" community organizer? He was our President for eight years, you idiot. Obviously, you don't know what the hell community organizers do, so shut the hell up, you stupid-a** troll. And Obama's no longer president, so stop fcking whining about him.

A lot of people are throwing out knee-jerk reactions without reading OP's question.

They never reference Obama as a president on this show, so Ellis is still the president, or at least was during this time. Obama was a US senator, which was when he made a name for himself. In fact, the Jidaiya song that references Obama was written before he was president, so even that song references a senator. It would be similar to how people talk about Bernie Sanders now even though he isn't president. With that said, remember, this show came out in 2016, which is an election year, so Diamondback making a "Yes We Can" joke might refer to a more recent Obama campaign than in our world.
