what happened to the birds?

We never find out what happened to them or why they flew straight into an oncoming plane. Some of them went into the engines and you see fire but we never find out if they come out the other side or stay in the engine.

They were Canadian geese so they likely went to Tim Horton's & then a hockey game, eh?
