I'll pass. Tired of hood films

I have not even seen a trailer of this film.

Wow, are you reading my mind? As soon as I saw this movie, I said to myself no thanks.

I'm tired of movies involving Black character only being about the hood, being a slave or a dance competition.

I mean is it too much to ask to see a normal movie with Black characters not centered around slavery, being a maid, gangs, or dancing?

I understand what you're saying and I feel the same way sometimes, but I watched it and truly enjoyed it.

As a older woman, I do not watch these types of
movies. Boy was I surprised. It is a good movie and a movie worth watching!

Just saw this on Netflix, and my thought was damn, another Boyz N the Hood movie.

I promise, I felt the same way. I had never heard of this movie but I had been so tired of these "hood films". I see enough of these young black thug, wannabe gangsters enough in real life so I definitely don't want to sit through 2 hours of the same old played out bull. However, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I was browsing through Netflix and this movie came up. I saw that a lot of big named actors were in the movie so I reluctantly decided to give it a shot. I thought that it would be one of those movies that I would end up turning off after 15 mins but I actually found myself getting into the story and actually liking the movie. It was one of those movies (for me) that I hated to see end.

Maybe if you watch it before judging it you'd see it's actually really good and not the typical "hood" movie. And there are plenty of new things being brought to the table, but stories like this still happen. Deal.
