sharePeople were fine for many years without knowing the origins of the titular alien in Alien. When Prometheus came out people complained out how it ruined the mystery and just didn't like certain explanations in general.

I don't think PROMETHEUS is hard to understand at all, especially for anyone
who's an ALIEN fan. It's just that it destroys everything cool about ALIEN,
that is why it sucks. I mean, people who aren't ALIEN fans might not
understand the Jockey references for instance but for us who do...
It's lame as Hell. Sure, I understand it. It's a bio-suit, it was never really
an elephantine creature. Sure, I get it. These "engineers" seeded humanity.
I GET IT ALREADY. But it's stupid. It sucks. It's awful in every way.
It makes the entire universe small and lame instead of immense and mysterious.
And again, it isn't just that the story and logic is lame, it's that the
entire atmosphere and style is lame as well. Instead of a cool Space Jockey,
we get a bald guy who looks like Quan Chi from Mortal Kombat. Plus he's humanoid.
Plus they pigeon hole in humanity and try to say humans were involved in *beep*
probably even in the creation of the ALIEN it's self. That is so lame!
It ruins all the mystery. Instead of a cool Giger looking ship with bones on
the walls and a huge, skeletal creature literately growing out of a chair, we
get sleek, plastic looking sets and a guy just a bit taller than normal humans
in a bio-suit. All the stuff that's "ALIEN" is gone, replaced by typical ho-hum
lameness that any Sci-Fi channel movie of the week could have done.
Sometimes the mystery is more effective than the knowledge. If the setup is good enough, whatever you picture in your head is likely to be much scarier than anything they could show on screen.
Thing about Blair Witch Project. One of the strengths of this movies was not showing the witch. By doing that, every shadow and weird shape in the woods creates suspense and makes you imagine a witch. You dont know what it will look like, so you don't know what to expect and you prepare for the worst. There are a lot of horror movies out there that lose steam once they bring out the monster for viewers to see. You go from imaging some crazy monster to knowing exactly what it will look like. Instead of picturing worse and worse details, you focus on how you could handle it and it doesnt seem too bad.
Removing the mystery also kills any fun discussion. People will spend decades debating where the Alien comes from, but if you make a movie that lists out exactly what the origins are, they stop caring and move on.

shareI know there was talk of doing one back in 2015-2016 but I don't see one happening now. Seems to be dead in the water. But you never know.
Not sure how good a sequel would be. Seems like a concept that works as a one and done deal.
A sequel is now confirmed and will begin shooting next year.

Might go too far and make it silly. I also question how creepy the entire premise will be a second time around? The first one had a creepy tone and camouflaged demons following endlessly was freaky but will that work a second time? They will need to add more
I really liked It Follows but not sure what can be done in a sequel? They can give us more background on the demon but besides that - I’m not sure how scary the main premise(a demon following endlessly) is going to be a second time out. That said give me the sequel!!
