holy *beep* their accents are terrible

it made the dialogue sound awkward as *beep*. they should have just let them keep their accents and not make them act american or something because they sounded super weird lol

Didnt notice the accent. But everytime i would look away grom the screen for a second the guy sounded a little like Ross from Friends to me. That bugged me lol

Oh my god, unisex names killed my family.

Funny how people can say their accents are terrible but yet others (like myself) found no issues with them whatsoever. I'll admit that I heard Bea on about two occasions sound a bit "off" with her accent and it is at that moment I guessed to myself that she was probably English or something. But her husband never made me wonder at all. I thought their accents were fine except for those few slip ups from her. Definitely not "super weird" as you say

Rose should have kept her brittish voice. Her accent wasn't good. The husband however was great. However Rose accent really just bugged me about 5-10 minutes and then I completly forgot that it was a bad one hahaha. Great and scary movie

I am Tigro, bow down to my greatness.

Reading this thread one can wonder how Arnold Schwarzenegger ever was able to build a film career in the US. I'm not from an english speaking country, but the thick Austrian accent always sounded very odd to me. Of course I wouldn't miss it for the world.

About to watch it on Netflix, but I saw the trailer on youtube, and honestly they seemed fine to me. Maybe once I watch it that will change, but Bea and the dude seemed like normal California accents or something.

How did you like the movie? I went in with low expectations and I loved the movie. 8/10

Yes, agreed. She lost me in the first minute or so when she says "been" with a long "e" sound rather than a short "i" sound ("bin") as Americans say it). Hers was clearly fabricated throughout. His wasn't as obviously fake but was still inconsistent, especially in the times of emotion. My greatest lament - why can't filmmakers have Americans (or at least Canadians) play Americans and Brits play Brits? If you can't fake it convincingly, it's a major distraction. Anyone who says Americans don't have an accent, and are therefore easy to portray, is massively incorrect. We may not have very obvious/stereotypical patterns like the British or Aussies but our manner of speaking is unmistakeable. It's one of those, I know it when I hear it, or when I DON'T hear it, as the case may be.

I comment about accents pretty regularly, and there are always those who disagree and say they don't hear anything amiss. Some may just naturally be better at noticing, but it's also a skill that you can hone with practice. I never used to notice anything when I was younger, but the more I have paid attention, the easier it has become. It's second nature now, and I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this!

Just because your father tried to eat you do we all have to be unhappy .... forever?

Once you've learned an accent for yourself it's impossible not to recognize another who has done the same. As long as its not Kevin Costner Robin Hood bad, it doesn't bother me if they're not perfect, but some people are much less forgiving. To each his own, I suppose.

I thought his was fine, and I thought she was just a Scot who moved to America? Didn't find it jarring at all.

reply

I'm American and thought they sounded fine. As a matter of fact, until I looked the movie up on here, I didn't realize the actors WEREN'T American.

reply

American as well. Had no clue that the actors weren't until I came across your post.
