I liked the movie, but this was so distracting for me. Bea's was particularly bad, throughout the whole movie. The instance I remember most clearly was when she said "it was muddy!", so british. Paul's was not bad at all, but the parts when he starts yelling, it's like he's not even trying to hide it

I wonder if the folks who thought the accents were 'bad' were also aware of the actors not being from the U.S.
I didn't know who either of them were and at no point did I think they sounded anything but authentic.

Good point. I didn't know they were American and not only did I not think their accents were "unauthentic" but I remember thinking the female actress sounded quite lovely. I am I fan of another actor who is British and before realizing he was British, I couldn't detect anything in his speech. After learning about it, though, it's like I hyperfocused on the way he spoke and once in a while, I'd catch a slight accent on a word, or a phrase. It was rare, but it happens, so I think for most people watching w/o awareness or prior knowledge these actors did a pretty top-notch job with the accent, but if you're aware of them as Brit actors AND are hyperfocused then of course you're notice any mistakes they make AND in addition in general their accent will sound "fake" because you are expecting a British accent and you get an American so that's always jarring to go from one to another.

Rose's accent through me off a bit too, but only because I knew she was British. At at the end of the day, who gives a *beep* There are such a thing as American/British mixed accents along with others.

There is no such thing as an "American accent." There are dozens of accents from different regions of the country, and millions of accents from all over the world that make up our population.

If someone has a "bad" accent in a movie... It's because a lot of Americans do.

Sweet Jesus, quite possibly the most ignorant thing I've heard in hours.

By this profound logic, there simply cannot be a bad accent attempted in a film? All actors perfectly achieve their attempted accent? LOLOL!

Like say, when "Spud" was trying (hilariously and pathetically) to sound American in Black Hawk Down...it was merely because "a lot of Americans do"? And in reality it was a perfectly good attempt? Double-LOLOLOL

Brilliant theory, genius.

Actors failing (either slightly or horribly) to master an accent in a film...has been going on for decades. Ummm...Duh.

Some are transparent, and some are like Spud. And some, are like Gary Oldman.

So what this Heidi said (I had to read it a couple times, because it was such an odd thing to say I figured I misread it), is silly bordering on ludicrous.

Where do these people come from???

Hmmm, this is interesting. The reason being is that right from the start, I just found their dialog and manner toward each other SO horrible and unbelievable, and as you say, 'Awkward' I was wondering why it seemed so artificial to me; BUT, that might explain why it seemed so awkward and unrealistic, the fact that they were both what, British, and trying to come across as Americans. I hadn't realized that when I just submitted my review, but that certainly would at least explain why the dialog came across as so plastic and cliched to me.
