Why shoot the horse after it was mated with the black stallion? It seemed the ego of the man couldn't handle being embarrassed. That's the only reason I can think of.

shareThat's the way the film was written - yes, his ego was hurt by the incident watched by the neighbours. Humans do a lot of nasty things because of their egos!
shareI don't understand this at all. How does killing an innocent (and obviously extremely-loved to boot) animal in any way mitigate his shame? Not that his shame made any sense in the first place. So confusing.
