I wonder if Peter...(SPOILERS)

No evidence either way on the scope of Peter and Edward's relationship. All we (the audience) knows is that Peter is obsessed with Edward to the point that he murdered his mother. Also, that there is no relationship between them now. Edward doesn't want anything to do with him now. That's why he called Peter. Peter is a stalker. Stalkers can fixate on people that they have had little to no relationship with. The crime of stalking is always more about what's going on in the mind of the stalker than about their victims. One of the best books written about stalking is Gavin de Becker's The Gift of Fear.

At one point Peter mentions a "misunderstanding" that occurred between the two men, and that he invited Edward to dinner to talk it out and put it behind them. I'm guessing Peter made a move on Edward and was rejected.

I don't think they were lovers, only friends in the military. I think this close bond Peter felt was just in his head. Edward sent back his letters; I don't think he wanted anything to do with Peter because Peter was delusional about what he thought was their close friendship.

I dont think there was anything sexual at all. He was a 40 years old man living with his Mother, with a lame work, killed his Mother who had made clear his son was a big mess. Sister keeps calling and ask if mom knew about Peter actions. Also mental patient spend money in a execive way. For all that i would say he had a mental disordee. Probably a psycotic manía.
