I wasn't expecting that! (spoilers)

I'm so glad Murtagh's back! It wasn't the reunion I wanted this episode, but it was the reunion I needed. I might have jumped with joy a little lol.

I do wonder how that's going to affect the story now that they've departed from the book, but honestly, I don't care that much because MURTAGH BACK! I'm actually looking forward to not knowing what's going to happen.

I'm very interested in seeing where they go with this story. They put Jamie and Murtagh on opposite sides of "regulators" issue. That can't be good ...

reply

I was really happy to see him too.
Had no idea they departed from the book, as I only read the first one.

Also I am a bit worried about Brianna, how will she cope in the new environment.

reply

The question is, how will Brianna go to America? By boat will be a huge amount of time

reply

Yeah, that too.

But I’m guessing they will skip some time forward, so she will arrive by the next couple of episodes, unless she gets in some kind of danger and there will be obstacles for her to reach Claire and Jamie.

Which is highly likely, I don’t see it going that smoothly. And to be honest it would be boring to watch if it was too easy.

I agree, I also expect Brianna's journey to be one of some difficulty. I assume she'll have to earn some money for the passage by ship as she wouldn't have any from the time period. Or maybe she'll be able to work on the ship for the passage, a cook, maid or some kind of helper with other passengers.

I also was happy to see Murtagh back! It's going to be "interesting" with he and Jamie on opposite sides. Or more correctly, Jamie trying to take no side but that won't be easy given his deal with the Brits for the land.

reply

Seems we were wrong. She didn’t have many setbacks for starting her journey. Only one minor was her being locked in a room by Jamie’s ex wife, and that resolved quickly. Little too quickly, when she locked her in that room I thought she will have more struggle to get out of that situation.

And Ian gave her money for her voyage, so she is travelling in style, even got herself a maid. :)

But she hasn’t reached her parents yet, so it is possible there will be more obstacles along the way.

reply

When she got locked in the room I thought, but hoped not, that she'd have to endure some kind of witch trial or hearings, delaying her journey. I was so glad that didn't happen.

I do wonder though why she didn't correct the woman who locked her in how Claire left Scotland because she thought Jamie was killed in battle. And that it wasn't a case of Jamie leaving because he didn't want a baby and family to deal with. That might have eased some of the anger the woman had overall with Jamie and the gossip. Though she was rightly angry with him for leaving her and their daughter in Scotland and not helping them out financially very much.

reply

I thought that too, and was also relieved that there was no witch trial. I hated when it happened to Claire. But on the other hand plot wise it just seemed too easy.

Although I am glad she made it ok, because I am rooting for her.

I don’t think anything would eased the womans anger once she heard she was Claire’s daughter. As she hated Claire so much.

Brianna did defend her mother and even said to Laoghaire that Jamie never loved her. That just pissed her off even more. Think she should have been quiet and agreed with what the woman said just to appease her and get out of the situation, also Brianna telling her that she needs to warn them about the fire just made things worse, as it got Laoghaire an idea to accuse her of witchcraft.

She should have been more careful, I assume her mother told her about her ordeal when she was accused of being a witch.

I am not sure if Laoghaire trully believes they were witches or just saw the opportunity for revenge. Considering the time in which she lives, I guess it could be both.

Also she was delusional thinking that Jamie once loved her, but it could also be Jamies fault as they were fooling around when they were young. I am not saying he told her that, just that she constructed that from his behavior, for example when he took the lashing instead of her.

And I don’t think there was any gossip, maybe yes some as lets be real there always is gossip, but not to extent Laoghaire was saying. I had a feeling she was saying those things just to be hurtful to Brianna and maybe even dissuade her from looking for Jamie.

I agree she was rightly angry for him leaving them. I just don’t get it why he would marry her in the first place. I know he was lonely and was attached to her kids, but still. She was the one who accused Claire of being a witch which almost cost them their lives. He must be very forgiving.

reply

Good point which I meant to mention that Brianna should never have said that about the fire and why she was going to the Americas. I had the same thoughts that such a thing would seem quite odd, and given the times it could be seen as witchcraft. Certainly Laoghaire would be looking at that as revenge, even to get at Brianna. I think that's how twistedly angry of a mindset she has.

It also does seem, like you say, that it may just be Laoghaire's gossip and not from others as we see how nicely Brianna is greeted by the family at the estate.

In the book, she brought money with her, purchased from antique coin dealers.

reply

I have only read the first book.

But they did show the content of her purse when Brianna fell.

She had a map, and I might have seen a compass and even a few coins. Not sure what I actually saw but there were some stuff besides the map. Should have paused to take a better look. I guess she had some but not enough to make the journey, or make the journey in better style as now she is travelling as a lady.

Even Brianna’s boyfriend came prepared with coins.

I wasn't expecting that Murtagh is bonking Jamie's aunt!

reply

I was, actually. 😂 The moment they started quarreling I had a feeling there was some chemistry between them. I thought he was going to kiss her, when she spilled drink in his face I thought that I had a wrong feeling. Then there was the cut to the next scene. 😁
